This site (and cashier/sandwich artist experience) has molded me well. I rarely complain and am always concious of the SCsor bad day who may have contributed to the bad service. They are human, after all!
My parents actually met working in the same restaurant. My mom was a cashier (it was a barbecue place, so you got in line to get your food, and then paid at the register) and my dad was the manager of the place. I still go there where I in the area as everyone has literally known me since I was born (I think a few of them even came to see me and my parents at the hospital when the time came).

I grew up hearing my dad's SC stories (I should share a few of them, they're pretty nuts...) and my mom's stories from when she became a teacher.

It never really sank in until after I started reading the stories here. It's an entirely different perspective.

There was one icecream place in Virginia Beach that ... I normally loved this establishment cos I had fond memories of them from growing up in NY. However after 2 separate visits to the one in VA, I never went back. Both times because it was slow as fuck. no hissy fit... just never went back after the second time.
Oh I hate when there are the places that I used to go to that I remember having such good service and go back and find out it has gone down hill. Especially the Carl's Jr. I used to work at. When I worked there it was in second place for lead store in the region, we had some of the lowest wait times and highest survey scores, and even kept our expenses below goal. Now I have gone back twice, both times I waited over 20 minutes for an order that was wrong with the manager's only response being "well, everyone has off days" (yeah, and I just happened to come in on your two bad days by coincidence).

What is more likely to have happened is that in order to save on their order times, they deleted her order off the order screen, intending to bring it back under review (but the timer it would've shown up as completed with a lower serve time.) They might have just forgotten to bring it back up under review and therefore just forgot about it entirely, or thought it was completed. The McDonald's in my town tended to do that during rush hours so they could keep the metrics good while being able to take enough time to get everyone's orders right and out as fast as they could.[/QUOTE]

This is a reason why I do not like metrics as well as why I would not want to work at the drive thru in a fast food restaurant that does this.

snuggle -- Unless I miss my guess, that eliminates pretty much ALL fast food restaurants ^_^ iirc, there are places that expect the "completion of order => pay at first window => Get food from next window and leave" process to be under a minute. Unless the place is DEAD slow and all you want is a drink, that ain't happening.

Pizza joints do it too, but their timers are somewhat more realistic for the time needed (everything is made to order), even tho, when I was at DaddyJim's at least, they did not increase the expected time for little things like "having 20 active delivery orders with four people working and four drivers" or "this order contains ten pizzas" >_> For us, it was four minutes to make a complete order and sixteen minutes from "hang up the phone" to "it must be out of the store" (over took roughly 5-6 mins). Keep in mind that the 4 minutes included time to slap out the dough. For a one-topping pizza, 4 mins was no sweat. For a Works, or worse, one of those "leave off these 5 toppings and add these other 5 instead" (in order to take advantage of a works-only special), not so much, as these often also required extra cooking time. Pies got "clocked out" early all the time as a result.

I wanted to but with tax, I paid over $5.00 for all of it. I'm a serious penny pincher since I'm unemployed. The money was going to go towards my 3D crystal puzzle collection. (Look them up, they're so cool!) I'll have to wait until Christmas now.
Oooohh!!!! Oh I am so glad I read this thread.

I now know just what to get my niece for her birthday this year! She will LOVE them!

              Actually ..NO...

McDonalds uses variations of several models for every type of equipment in the store. Some have one tank some have two. My store has a two tank model, and it DOES take a while for it to cool enough to not be runny.
Both winter and summer some times you get hit really hard for cones and shakes in a short period for no desirable reason. I am sorry you had a bad experience, some stores are just plain bad, sometimes it is bad scheduling.

D'as is not how McDonald's ice cream machines work. Milkshakes and anything made with ice cream come out of the same machine, using the same mix, from the same reservoir. As soon as they put a bag of ice cream "mix" (which is a liquid) into the machine they can make ice cream.

This is how they save money. They keep the ice cream mix in liquid form and then the machine will either quick freeze it for ice cream, or only semi freeze it for milk shakes.

Not quite the same, but I had a similar experience at a McDonalds the other way round when my order appeared before this other woman's when she had ordered first. When she bitched about it to the manager, the manager pointed out that since this woman had ordered a specific meal (ie, no gherkins, no tomato and no mayo in the burger) it was going to take longer than mine, which was an off the peg (yes, I know it was probably waiting on the oven for eons but when I need my PMS junk fix, I don't care) so therefore took a shorter time.

Even tho I could see the other customer's point, I lost all sympathy for her cuz she was so rude to the teenage server and the manager.
