  • Um, its a law?

Well I drove to Providence yesterday, and i can say that a majority of drivers in RI are indeed assholes, and many people are just plain RUDE. (yea i know CT people are too, but i was surprised at RI, i thought more of them would be nice)

anyways, this story has nothing to do with RI, but my drive to it, still in CT

Im driving down route 2 east, two lanes each way. I'm always in the right hand lane, unless im passing someone. For a good amount of time, id say Glastonbury to Norwich I was either behind or in front of this particular car

Its maybe 10am and this car is driving erratically. I figure its too early for them to be drunk. I pass them because i dont feel comfortable behind them. I notice as i pass them, the lady is on her cell phone.

and considering she had a CT plate, she must know its against the law!! biotch.

seriously, left to right, back and forth, tailgating me so close, falling back, tailgating a tractor trailer.

of course the only 5 minutes she wasnt on her phone was when she passed a state trooper sitting and watching traffic.

    DAMNIT!!

It's been against the law in the Canadian province I live in since January 1 of this year, yet I see people still yacking/texting and driving several times a day. I was in line getting coffee the other day, and the lady in front of me was on her phone complaining to whomever that she was going to fight the $150+ ticket she got for using her cell phone while driving because, quote, "I didn't even know it was against the law!"

Seriously?!?!?! It's been on the news and in the papers for months, plus there was a month or two of grace period before they even began enforcing the law. Maybe if you actually got off your phone and paid attention to the world around you, you'd have a clue.

i dont think they even let them fight the tickets anymore here in CT, you just have to pay it.

      Specifically:

"An operator of a motor vehicle who types, sends or reads a text message with a hand-held mobile telephone or mobile electronic device while such vehicle is in motion shall be in violation.."

The fine for a first offense will be $100 and a second offense will cost $150 and subsequent offenses will cost the texting offender $200.

The new Law goes into effect on October 1st, 2010.

ok so it will happen soon lol

Yeeeaaahh, isn't that always the case; if you don't know it's a law, then it can't apply to you! Cry me a river, blah blah blah.

That is never a safe assumption to make.

Surely there must be some process to dispute a ticket.
Though I read recently that somewhere, (England?) they've had so many people dispute tickets in hopes the officer doesn't show and it gets automatically dismissed, that now if you dispute a ticket and lose, you have to pay way more.

"But officer, you cant give me a fine! How was I supposed to know its against the law to commit brutal and unspeakable acts of grotesque, disturbing, yet oddly hilarious violence against EW jackass morons who literally cannot shut up long enough to keep from killing themselves and/or others while driving."

Were you near houses most of the time, or could you have honked incessantly until they got the hint and hung up and got away with it?

Speaking of CT, my friend just moved there with her boyfriend, and she says that people there just run red lights all the time. And even honk if you stop at one like they expect you to as well.

                Is that true?

This reminded me of a WIN incident I saw last week (jogged my memory - I'm in the same province.) Was at Tim Horton's waiting, and a woman was in the drive-thru gabbing on her cell phone. She was asked to wait for food - and the manger walked over to the far end of the store, where 2 cops were having coffee. Cop walks out, you can hear the woman screaming that she only started using the phone when she parked. Overhead the manager telling the cop that they had her on CCTV using the phone while driving the drive-thru

I pass them because i dont feel comfortable behind them.
I prefer to stay behind them (far behind them), where I can see what they're doing. If I'm in front of them they have a better chance of hitting me.

I am reminded of EricKei's current sig (which I noticed today):

So where on the Island are you? I'm in CR. Beautiful here, but nutty drivers.
