  • The girl who really needed coffee

Just a short little tale here. I'm going into my 17th hour at work because the 1st shift person has a doctor's appointment and is probably not going to be in until 12 or possibly 1, which means I will have worked a 21-hour shift. That being said, I am NOT in the mood for SC's this morning.

Just had one though. A girl came to the front desk and asked me where the Starbucks is located. There isn't one in Hendersonville. I told her as much and she screamed, "You are kidding me! You cannot be serious!" Then she went over to the other girl who had come downstairs with her and they discussed this horrifying notion at length. For a second, I honestly thought she might cry, from the way her face was screwed up.

They settled for our continental breakfast, got their food and our grossly inferior coffee, and were heading back upstairs when the first girl tripped and fell, and spilled her grossly inferior coffee down the stairs.

Sounds like she really did need some caffeine to help her wake up enough to navigate the steps.

I'm sorry, but anyone with that short a fuse doesn't need any more caffeine, thanks very much. Maybe you should have offered her a nice herbal enema. Tea. I meant tea.

It's sad she couldn't cope without her overpriced coffee.

back up a min there hhc.

        A 21 hour shift?

Who in their right mind would set you up for that? I'd be screaming labour board as loud as I possibly could. That is well beyond illegal, it's unhealthy.

It's cruel, but not illegal. Doctors and nurses frequently work 24-36 sometimes even 48 hour shifts.
The only words you said that I understood were "His", "Phone" and "Ya'll". The other 2 paragraphs worth was about as intelligible as a drunken Teletubby barkin' come on's at a Hooter's waitress.

Like this SC, I can get ratty very easily without caffeine. Which is why I bought a stovetop espresso maker.

I'm guessing she was just a brat, not a true coffee addict. True addicts know not to rely on there being a Starbucks anywhere.

Oh, and also, what a cow. I'm sorry you had to deal with her after such a long shift, too.

I've always thought 'true addicts' didn't like StarBucks to begin with?

If she was a severe coffee addict, she would be happy with gross, bitter, instant swill.

I mean, sure, Starbucks is nice, but when you are jonesing for caffiene, you don't care what form it takes. You'll drink instant. You just don't care. You might bitch and complain about how nasty it tastes, but make no mistake, you will drink it and be grateful for it. Caffiene addiction really more powerful than people realize.

She was just a princess, I think.

Haha. My parents have a house in Hendersonville! Well, it's actually in Zirconia, but we're like, 2 feet away from Hendersonville.

Anyways, sorry about your 21 hour shift.

There's a place in Dallas, where there is a StarBucks, and directly across the street from it,... Another STARBUCKS! For the life of me, I've tried to figure out what group could possibly need a StarBucks across from a StarBucks. And, the only group I can think of, that still makes this joke work, is people with Alzheimer's.... Gentlemen, is that a StarBucks I see? I think it's time for coffee."

There are literally HUNDREDS of similar areas in Canada with Tim Hortons coffee shops across the street from each other. Most are owned by the same franchisee. Apparently, they don't draw each other's business, they just draw more people in.
I love coffee. I'd freak out too if I ended up in a town without a Starbucks. I'm addicted to the stuff. Its not good. I would like to think that I wouldn't frighten the front desk clerk at my hotel, though.

You should check your state regulations. Often, health care professionals have special exemptions that allow them to work those hours.

Some of you may have heard the story of Winter Smith, the guy who has made it his mission to visit every Starbucks in the world, or at least every one in North America. It's been written up in a few publications.

I actually know that guy. He used to work with my ex-husband. What an obscure claim to near-fame.
