There's a place in Dallas, where there is a StarBucks, and directly across the street from it,... Another STARBUCKS!
Interesting facts about my current habitation area: At a hospital that a friend stayed in, there is a 24 hour Starbucks that sells everything you'd find at a normal Starbucks. THere is also more Caribou Coffees than Starbucks in the town I currently live in.

It's cruel, but not illegal. Doctors and nurses frequently work 24-36 sometimes even 48 hour shifts.
I'm not sure if doctors and nurses are awake for their entire shifts. I think they get to take short naps. I know I wouldn't want a doctor making a judgement call about my health in an emergency if he or she had been awake a solid 48 hours.

What is it with people with coffee?

We shut down our coffee machine an hour before we close, this is because it takes about an hour for it to go through its cleaning cycle, so we have signs telling people this.

Two women come in twenty minutes before we close.

        Woman: Two lattes please.
Me: Oh I'm sorry, our coffee machine is going through its cleaning cycle...
Woman: So you serve ALCOHOL but not coffee??? Thats insane!!

I'm sorry, but we are a BAR. 99% of our intake is from alcohol, not coffee!

You should come to Dallas, South Dakota - not a Starbucks in sight! Dallas' claim to fame is having a city watertower sitting in the middle of a state highway.

It's sad she couldn't cope without her overpriced coffee.
I'm willing to bet that she didn't want a coffee--she wanted a triple shot double foam low-fat soy whatever-the-hell-they-are's that you get from them. She wouldn't know what to do with coffee-flavoured coffee.

On a related note, a couple of years ago I went to my sister's wedding in Canmore. Canmore is a very beautiful mountain town that is unfortunately infested with new money yuppies--I can only imagine what the entitlement-complex is like there. Anyway, I'll admit that I had a similar reaction when I could not for the life of me find the Tim Horton's in town and had to go to Starbuck's for coffee. At least the coffee was free. (I'd wanted a large-sorry, venti-and they were all out of the right-sized hot cups. So they gave me a small for free. )

i'm thinking she wanted a caramel frappucino horror...with extra caramel.

if i ever meet the guy who came up with this idea, i will seriously hurt him.

It's quite possible that she was just a Starbucks addict. She's addicted to paying their higher prices and seeing that soothing green logo on the side of her cup . . .
This area is left blank for a reason.

"Of course I'm just kidding about there not being a Starbucks nearby. You see that door over there? Walk through it and there's a Starbucks within a Starbucks within a Starbucks. And there's another Starbucks in the basement."

At the same time I am laughing at her karma-induced spill, I feel bad for the person who had to clean it up. But then, it might have been worth it...

Yes, they do. My mom frequently spends weekends at the hospital. The only difference between medical care professionals and hotel workers is that the medical people are given beds to sleep in. I somehow doubt HauntedHead is allowed to curl up and sleep for a few hours. I could be wrong though.

For health care professionals, yes, but they are given rest periods during their shifts. For the general public, depending on state laws, being forced to work over 10 hours without an 8 hour rest period is illegal.
