Quoth mhkohne View PostInteresting - one of my banks (TD) has them in most if not all of their branches, if I understand correctly. I don't know what they'd do if a non-customer wandered up and used it, though.Any fool can piss on the floor. It takes a talented SC to shit on the ceiling.

My bank has coin counters for customer use at almost all locations. It's free for customers, and charges 10% for non-customers (we're told we don't really want to have non-customers using the machine, but once the coin is in there, not much we can do, thus they have the fee posted). I love the machine. Before we got them, we took rolled coin only, and the rolled coin ended up getting put in our teller drawers and almost always made the drawer off once it was opened.

There is a local bank in the town where I live, and both branches have a coin counter machine, not charge for customers and I believe around 6 or 7 % for non-customers. The store I work at also has a coinstar machine, which is I believe a 9-10% fee for cash, but no fee if it's being changed into a gift card from a list of about 20 different store.

Saw something a bit eye opening the other day at one of the local grocery stores. They had a Coin Star type machine, but it had a sign that said quite clearly that there was NO CHARGE for using it. No percentage no nothing. Free to anyone who had coins and wanted to get rid of them.
I thought that was pretty cool, and not what you would expect.

Actually, I'm pretty sure it's the reverse. I think that store had a percentage fee type f machine, and for whatever reason, they changed it to free. If so, I like the way they operate!

One of the major banks here in NZ has coin counting machines in all their branches, but it keeps the coins and spits out a receipt so you HAVE to deposit the coins into an account at their bank (it even has a warning on the machine that the receipt has to be surrendered to a staff member that same day for the coinage to be added to an account)Violets are blue,

Quoth Ophbalance View PostWhere are these mystical machines located? In two states and several different banks I've never seen one that had a machine just for this purpose (at least customer facing). Any time I've wanted to turn in change, and we're talking the last 20 years, I've always had to turn them in wrapped beforehand. How OLD are these people doing this??
Some grocery stores have a Coin Star outside of them but they charge a percentage.

Quoth moneybags View PostSC: Goddamn you people. You don't know a thing about customer service. No wonder I don't bank here
Welcome aboard moneybags. May your SCs be few and far between, but enough for us to laugh at with you, like this jamook.
Quoth IT Grunt View Post... at my local Walmart like that.. but the free part... only extended to getting the cash put on a store gift card.
My bank is behind the counter, deposit or cash back, customers only.

A non-customer complaining about your customer service in such gentlemanly terms. Good thing he's not a regular, it would be a nightmare!
I don't remember seeing one of these coin machines. Then again, I rarely step foot into an actual bank (yeah internet banking). When I have enough coins, I use those pre-formed transparent plastic holders. No need to count, just shove coins in until full, close and redeem. It only takes one or two minutes per roll. It's not the years in you life that count, it's the life in your years! - Quote from the office coffee cup.
