Maybe the customer thought the person should use their own trash can to clean out their car, instead of a stores considering the store has to pay a lot more for trash removal.

Although, I will say, my own car gets pretty messy because I refuse to litter, and sometimes I am just to busy to clean it out at home. Then I get so I can't stand it and clean it out while I'm gassing up.
I believe that was this guy's meaning but as I asked him "Aren't trash cans for putting trash into instead of throwing it out into the parking lot?"

Still baffles me that he even thought it was his business that someone else was cleaning out their car.

Well, there is that. Some people aren't happy if they aren't being busybodies

First off, people need to mind their own business. Second, in the shopping center that my work is in, we aren't in charge of the outside garbage. That's all taken care of by whoever the property manager hires, and they are (theoretically) the ones who also pick up any litter in the parking lot. So it's not our problem.

And who's to say what is acceptable to throw away in an outside garbage can? I guess it's probably not cool to throw away an entire household worth of garbage. But still, I feel like it's better to put it in the garbage can rather than throw it on the side of the road, which is what some would do. I used to get spectacularly pissed off when I lived in my home town and was driving this super pretty street with no houses but lots of big old Maple trees and moss, and BAM a pile of garbage bags. Usually also some cans and bottles, and always a few bags had been split open by raccoons. I hate litterers.

That was the conclusion my coworkers and I came up with (after having a good laugh about it after the guy left.)

Using a trash can is definitely the lesser of the two evils in that case. Same with Fred out back (our dumpster.) Nothing like coming to work on a Monday morning and unlocking the back door to let in one of the drivers and see a bunch of sofa cusions sticking up from inside the dumpster.

At least they didn't leave the sofa sitting out back as well.

And speaking of that, back about 15 years or so ago at WD Cone, somebody had left not only a sofa, but also a stove and a tv set sitting out back by our back ramp. All we needed was a dinette set, fridge and a sink and somebody could have lived back there.

Those items could have been meant for the Goodwill store two doors down but even they have their standards.

At the swamp, people leave their garbage in their no-longer-needed shopping cart (which, oddly, as often as not is returned to the corrals provided in the parking lot).

It's especially fun during yellow jacket season and those stinging little fucks are after the garbage left behind in the cart. People have been stung, but fortunately there haven't been any life-threatening allergic reactions.

I don't mind people using the garbage cans in front of my store to clean out their car; whatever keeps it from the parking lot, man.

What DOES bug me is when truckers (or whoever) toss huge trash bags into my store's dumpster. Every store in my shopping center has its own dumpster right beside the back door...ours is somewhere in the middle of the center-by no means the first from any direction. However, it seems that OURS is the one that always has the lids left wide open and is half-full of random garbage bags. WTF

I have been stung TWICE while doing carts at work (one time in mid-October ). I am thankfully not allergic to bee/wasp venom, but they hurt like HELL.

My stepfather was the caretaker at our county fairgrounds, one time he saw a woman change her baby's crappy diaper, and throw it on the ground. He asked her to pick it up and throw it in the trash container not far away. She replied that she didn't need to, since the fairgrounds was a public place and she could do whatever she wanted. My stepfather waited until the woman walked away and picked up the dirty diaper and placed it dirty side down under her windsheild wiper.

I really, really like the way your stepdad rolls. Sweet, sweet justice.

Pretty much, yes. The customer was basically doing the lesser of two evils. And it also depends on how much trash they're throwing out. A fast food bag full? No problem. A 55-gallon Hefty bag full? Okay, that's getting ridiculous. Still, I'd rather see it in the trash can than all over the parking lot or in the flowers.

I hate litterbugs. Had a dude in front of me this morning nearly hit my car after tossing his bag of McDonald's out the window. Maybe it was the father in this story!

I utterly despise people like this. I get people all the time who just leave their garbage on the counter as if we are somehow obligated to assist them in not walking their lazy @sses to the garbage can.

I will literally carry an empty soda can for a mile or more before finding a trash can to deposit it in. Same thing with snack bags, paper towels, and the like. Always pisses me off when I see someone just toss something on the ground, especially if there's a trash can within eyesight/easy walking distance.
