Well, I'm one of the "turn it down" crowd: if I don't like a song, I really don't want to hear it. Given the choice of WallyWorld or TheBullsEye, I'll pick TheBullsEye specificly because they don't have background music, and no other reason.

On the other hand, if it's part of a place's "atmosphere", I'll usually suck it down... or find a place with less atmosphere.

Long ago, I had a job where I would be a blackjack dealer for casino parties. It was a lot of fun, even if I never did get any tips.

We had one show that was basically a roomfull of narcotics agents. They had a live band for additional entertainment, and I heard them play the song Achey Breaky Heart no less than 4 separate times, plus it played on the pa system while they took a break.

I was sick of the song before I had ever even heard it the first time thanks to a coworker who liked to sing the chorus and only the chorus over and over again.

Maybe it's just the location--Cleveland's Hard Rock wasn't loud at all.
Yeah i've been to the cleveland hard rock and i remember being able to hear and be heard without us having to scream. Now the one in Baltimore? Well, don't ever go there on a first date if you actually want to hear what the other person is saying.

Way back when, we used to be able to play whatever music we wanted (within reason). (Now stores with Music Departments have to play the "prescribed" in-store plays.) So this woman comes up and complains that she's trying to read and can't concentrate because we're playing Rock Music. What was this Head-Bangin' Mosh Music, you ask? 5 different Simon and Garfunkel discs on shuffle. (Don't ask me why we were playing 5 of the same person, I don't know who the heck decided to put them on.)

I once had someone want to turn me down, too (well, not just me). A couple years ago on my birthday I was working the day shift on a Saturday. So of course, the word "work" should be taken rather loosely. I volunteered to go pick up lunch at the sub shop across the highway, so I was rounding up everyone's orders and money. I was back in the music department, where there was a new girl on her first day working with the music manager, so they were pretty laid back that day with not much to do except help customers while she got to know the department. While I was waiting for them to decide what they wanted we were joking around and, I admit, getting a bit loud. Some guy in the comfy chairs on the other side of the music wall popped his head over the wall (he was rather tall) and asked us to be quiet. He wasn't sucky about it, though. We apologized and giggled quietly

We had this stupid entitlemen whore who used to come into Kinko's and whine that the music gave her headaches. At first, we'd just sort of roll our eyes and turn it down. That wasn't good enough, she wanted it OFF. Then she had medical reasons that we had to turn it off just for her. This idiot was in there at least twice a week, working out in self serve.

You all will be pleased to know that one of the assistant managers told her that since she had a medical condition, then it was her responsiblity to look after herself. Since we played music in Kinko's, and she knew before coming in that we played music, it was up to her to make sure she brought earplugs in next time. But hey, he was certainly willing to meet her half way and help her out...this time. And he took a pair of brand new earplugs out of his pocket and presented them to her.

            He was ready for her.

Moshing to Simon and Garfunkel--sounds like something I would've done in college.

Me and my friends used to always try and start mosh pits at rock concerts. The staff would always break it up before it got too far though.

Probably not a bad thing though--my knee still bothers me from time to time.

That reminds me of how people constantly complain how cold it is in our casino. Bring a sweater. Its hard to know exactly what temperature will make everybody happy and with so many drunk people its usually colder. Or five mins later someone will complain how hot it is.
Of course there is nothing anybody can do. Nobody will change the temp either way. I just get annoyed that they complain to us (the cage) its not like we can do anything anyway.

She was complaining about the Beach Boys?

Screw that, someone should have blasted some Slayer for the old bat.

"@#$%ing an Animal" would be a blast to play for her edification and our amusement. Either that or "Crush Kill Destroy!" with it's memorable lyrical line of "Destroying everything you cherish, masturbating as you perish, Crush Kill Destroy!" could be entertaining.

The only drawback might be the having to clean up the splattered brains of the old woman when her head explodes.

I would l-o-v-e to tell these people, especially the ones that go into certain music/book/video stores, "If you want silence, go to a library."

We had a woman complain one night that being able to hear the music in books and music was giving her a headache. Well, lady, you're giving me a headache with your whining. Can we turn you off?

So here's what I chose last night: B-52s, Power Station, Heavy Metal Hits of the 80's, and Dropkick Murphys. Loud.

AWESOME! Although the only GWAR song I'm familiar with is the 30-second blast "fishf@#%" on a compilation CD.

Old people justlove to compalin, if its not the music its how busy the shop is, or the temprature of the shop, like we can control the number of customers or the weather. Like when the air con was broken they'd have a massive go at me, and its like hello, do you think I'm enjoying this, you get to leave in a min, i'm stuck here boiling!

Our CDs are provided by cooperate and are a tad crap, they have allright music, well, tolerable, but they also have adverts, and we tend to run out of whatevers being advertised.

I would have looked at her and told her to turn her hearing aids DOWN. Seriously, at that age, we all wish our hearing was great, but its usually not.
