Yeah get your ass to at least the doctor. Even if it is nothing serious you will probably be hurting like a mofo today. I could see this as a injury to not only the shoulder but the back as well and possibly the knee's (back and knee's taking the full force as your body caught the couch). Hopefully you are doing better then I would be. But get it documented and start the paper trail, then if it turns serious or you need a day or 2, or some pain pills, chiropratic, or whatever you will be covered by the workers comp. Don't let this turn into something that would come out of your pocket. My Karma ran over your dogma.

Okay, back at work.
I don't think the mother ran because of what I said - I'm sure I can be forgiven when I was just crushed by a piece of furniture. The kid scrambled I think because of what just happened and he and the mother realized they just screwed up BAD, and took off without even seeing if I was alright.
And yeah, I would have taken down their information and given it to workmans comp so they could then take them to court.
After my coworker showed up I went to the hospital just to make sure everything was alright.
Explained the situation and they did both x-rays and an MRI to see if there was any type of internal puncture or if I had hit the nerves or anything similar when the staples impaled me. Fortunately, it missed the nerves.
In the X-Ray, they were checking for any cracks or hairline fractures in my shoulder and interestingly enough, there was a gouge that barely showed up on my shoulder blade. One of the staples actually ended up hitting bone.
They said the main worry was infenction as the punctures were really deep, so they ended up soaking the area in an solution that smelled so strong it made my head swim, until it came in contact with the actual wounds - I'm not sure what hurt more, the actual sofa or the friggen ACID they were bathing me in. Threw a bandage on it, gave me some medicine (yay vicoden) and some strong antibiotics, and a sling, as my arm has tightened up to the point it does not want to move to well. Threy said that they believe it's just cramping up from the blow but they want me to keep soaking the wound a few times a day until they are sure there isn't any chance of infection.
I don't think I really need the sling as it's easier for me to just let my arm hang at my side, but it made driving to work this morning fun.
So - course of action is to take it easy, pump the painkillers and pump the antibiotics to make sure no infection happens - if infection does come up, they said it could be very serious and I could lose the arm as it would start at the bottom of the punctures, which most likely also hit some tendons and ligaments if one of them nailed my shoulder blade.Last edited by Kusanagi; 08-10-2007, 05:29 PM."Time shall help me face my painful memories with indifference, and with more of it, I won't feel the need to face them at all..."

Damn, Kus. You have the most dangerous job of anyone on this board.
Please keep checking your shoulder for any redness; use a second mirror if you have to. Extra sensitivity or lack of sensation could indicate an infection. Don't put off going to the doctor. Work comp is supposed to cover everything.
If your employer provides short term disability, see if you can go out for a bit on work comp and insurance. If there's enough money, take some time and let it heal. If not, well, I think we all understand a tight money situation, and you do what you have to do.
Maybe this is the universe (whatever you choose) telling you to get another job.

Wishing a quick and thorough healing for you.
I would also suggest a talk with your boss about the furniture display. Who the heck stands a sofa up on end?! Especially without any kind of support!I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.

Had anybody else been on duty, the kid would have wound up under the sofa. Kus is probably the only one with the reflexes and strength to have kept the kid from getting squished!Everything will be ok in the end. If it's not ok, it's not the end.

Wow who knew the furniture biz was so dangerous. Maybe being a bodyguard would be quieter or something.......
Good luck with that arm. If it is as deep as the doctor is saying that could be a bit of a problem. Hope you get better.
As for the Sofa I still dont see why it was standing on end in the first place as even if no one climbed on it thats still not a natural position for a sofa and a setup for a bad thing to happen.
Yeah the lady and spawn probably ran out of fear of being called certain names: Witness or Responsible party.
