It's true: disaster brings out the best and the worst in people. You've got the heroes, the healers, the generous givers...and you have the opportunists, the sluggards and the self-centered arrogant s.

I'm very sorry you had to deal with three of the worst. Your restraint is admirable; I think I would've picked up a nearby lamp/vase/tchotchke and rammed it into one end and out the other of those SCs!
I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.

once again, my lack of faith in our species is reinforced; not only did they choose to overlook reality, but the fact that the reality had affected you and your coworkers completely.

heads up their nethers? certainly; in fact, up there so far, they cannot be retracted. no hopes for them.

once again, kus, you still managed to show restraint in a situation, in which most (including me) would have told them to get the F* out and to take their damned money with them.

sorry that your store is a magnet for humanity's trash.

Guess who just called my boss to try and tear him a new one?

Never thought she'd actually do it...

What'd your boss do? Hang up on her or do what you did?

At times like this, I'm glad my employer gives a damn.

They're matching dollar, per dollar of what we donate to the red cross for the SoCal families up to $500 bucks.

My family is down there, so I too have been stressed out and with a short fuse. My brother was one of the lucky folk who didn't lose a home in his neighborhood. There's a lot of smoke damage to the building, but as he said, at least he has a roof over his head.

Now, if I could find out more about my nephew's newly diagnosed heart condition, I would be feeling a little better.

              And your boss did what?

              I have to know.

He just told me "It's been handled. Don't worry about it."

I'll pump him for more details but considering he puts up with even less shit than I do, I would imagine he was more...blunt...than I was.

No, no, no.... He said "blunt".

That means a morning star or a club.

I am hoping that his solution started with calling up the friendly local hitman and whispering "I have a problem I need handled."

Okay, so I realize that it's waaaaaay against the rules, but can you just this once give us the phone numbers of those three people? I'm sure most of us wouldn't mind killing a few hours telling those people exactly what we think of them and their actions.

Y'know what? I am so glad my cats were in the room when I read that because after reading how those asses are acting when some people have nothing left? I needed to cuddle something and they happily obliged.

                                Here's a solution:

                                1.Go to SC's home.

                                2. Strip it of everything.

                                3. Sell saleable items and donate money to people made homeless by the fire.

                                4. Everything else is to be given to those who's homes were wrecked and who lost everything.

                                5. Everyone's happy, and SC learns there are worse things than simply missing a sofa.
People who don't like cats were probably mice in an earlier life.
