I still have my Vulpix doll, which my husband bought me during our first Christmas together. I have the Pikachu keychain (sans keychain now) I bought at a gas station I frequented during college. And the HUGE Meowth that my husband found for $7 at a K-Mart sidewalk sale and bought me because I was really sick and I'm a complete wimp when it happens.

I think the hottest toy is going to be the Wii and whatever incarnation Elmo will be this year.

Tch, makes me glad our store never sold any of the super-popular merchandise.

Guitar Hero 3 hasn't sold out yet, but probably will.
You should all go get it. It's awesome. Just the right amount of songs I love (Yay! Sunshine of Your Love!) and songs I have (that's YOU, Raining Blood. **** you.)

Also, guitar battles are hella fun.
Also, I need to see if I can't track down a Wii sometime.

On topicish, product stampedes are always newsworthy.

This is why my friends bring me along to stores to serve as a battering ram. I will elbow an old lady in the head if she starts shoving at me to get to a freaking TOY.

My mom tells me a story about when Cabbage Patch dolls first came out, and she put one on backorder for my older sister. They were THE item that year and she wasn't really expecting to get one in time for Christmas, talked to my sister about it, etc. However, on Christmas EVE, the call came in that a doll had just arrived and that she could pick it up right away. She goes sailing off into town to get this doll.

The guy at the store offered to have her escorted to her car because there were people vulturing around the store, trying to track down the shipment. My mom's response was something to the effect of "Let them try." She said people in the parking lot were offering her up to $1000 for it (and this was back in the early 80's or possibly even the late 70's, I'm not sure which, so that's like $2500 these days, heh).

She got the doll home, needless to say, for my sister's Christmas.

We have no idea where it is now. I'm pretty sure it was lost within two years. Naturally.

They left one person in the department to deal with all those people?!

I only ever had to deal with the Pokemon cards; just the little booster packs. We had to keep them behind the counter, though, or we'd find the wrappers scattered around the store and the cards nowhere to be found...

Oh, yes. Even better is when you find a bunch of half-empty packs...and you know the little buggers have been going through packs thinking 'got...got...got...NEED *swipe*'

Especially when Shonen Jump has the occasional Yu-Gi-Oh Promo card. Even Yu-Gi-Oh Volume 16 and Yu-Gi-Oh Millennium World #4 have fallen prey to the card stealing bastards.

I don't get the Wii. The Best Buy near me has them in stock all the time plus I can get them from 3 or 4 very reputible online merchants.

A group of us allpitched in and got one as a present for a friend of ours who is in need of physical therapy over the next few months and we figured the Wii would be a fun and thereputic present to get him. No issues getting one to him w/ free shipping (he got it in 3 days).

Ah, yes, the occasional Yu-Gi-Oh! card in SJ. What I'd do when I wanted copies of the same card? Bought copies of the issue and gave the issues a friend's kid and the kid's friend, both of whom were learning how to read at the time. ^_^

Did someone in here just compare Cowboy Bebop to DBZ and Yu-Gi-Oh?

although, since there is currently a "all you need to watch the new hd channel is a hd capable set top box" campaign running from one of the free-to-air television stations here
I love how they say "there are many standards of picture quality, ours is the highest" when in reality there are only three standards and all HD channels are the highest.
