  • closing early on Xmas Eve/closed on Xmas

with Christmas eve being on a Monday this year I get to close the pizza place early specifically at 4 pm. I can just imagine the suckiness that will ensue (and my point being???? ). for example

BUT I NEEEEEED A PIZZA for my eve party WHY are you closed??????
this is an outrage. you should not be closing early I NNNNNEEEEEEDDDDD pizza
    etc.

my reply would be if I could -- OK we will prepare your order and deliver it but we will add a minimum $50 holiday (another name for moron tax) charge to your order depending how we feel at the moment. yeah I know someone would ACTUALLY be willing to pay that but it would stop 99%.

a lot of the business in the area are closing early so I gottas talk to some of the people I know about some of the idiotcy that will happen

anyone with horror/stupid/etc stories about closing early on Christmans Eve/closed on Christmas

Actually, the director of my city's Chamber of Commerce was on local radio this afternoon reminding people about retail trading hours this time of year.

He said that most major department stores and similar will be open extended hours to midnight on both Thursday and Friday, and that shops will be closing early on Christmas Eve. So, he said that his key message was to take advantage of the extended trading hours this week instead of leaving it to the last minute. I wonder if SCs listen to the radio?

      Nope. :P

I remember back in the Evil Bullseye days, herding people to the front a good half an hour after we closed. We would make 30, 15, 10, and then 5 minute announcements. Still, people would run in through the Exit, only to be herded back to the front. Ah, those were the days of pain.

Now, the bookstore's not nearly as big, but we still do a bit of herding. We don't usually have security Monday, but I hope we will this week. We're closing early and will need it!

We're open from 8 am to 4:30 pm christmas eve. I predict people hammering on the doors when they're locked.

I mean, really, how desperate can someone be for almonds Christmas eve? The supermarkets will likely be open a little later than we are, go there.

We are open 6 am to 6 pm Christmas Eve.

If I'm working that day it won't be a closing shift. But when I did work close on Christmas Eve we'd always have a few dry pool diving team members come in 5 minutes before close and act shocked that we were out of all the hot toys, or just leisurely doing their shopping like they had all day to do it.

Most people don't expect food related businesses to close early on day before holiday . . . let alone holiday itself.
I know that most of the high end places will be open . . .if you get to close early on Christmas Eve and work in food - count your blessings . . .yes there will be complaining as that is what our Prosac nation loves to do. (complaining has now replaced laughter as to what makes the world go round)
As for Retail - as in places to buy gifts / malls/ food places in malls - yes, those do tend to close at a reasonable time on Eve . . . 5/6pm is what I am used to seeing around here.

I work in a video store that is connected to a supermarket. You can enter the video store through the main store.

Anyways, we always close early on Christmas Eve, and are closed all day Christmas. Which is the only day a year that we are. One year my sister and I decided to sit in my car and watch how many people try to get in after the store closes. We have a manager or two at the exit and have the doors locked, only opening them to let out any remaining customers and employees. It is amazing how many regular customers that I see, who should know that we close early, and a few of the customers that asked me the day before when we close.

I am glad I wasn't the managers that had to turn them away.

I'm thrilled. our store closes at 3 on Christmas Eve. Of course, we are closed Christmas day.

But, as a bonus, I get New Year's Day off, too. And I don't have to beg, or make a point of mentioning when I got hired that I don't work that day. We go home at 3 on New Year's Eve and closed all day on New Year's! YAY!

I'm hoping there is no suckiness on Christmas Eve...although I imagine there will be... I've got family to see...so I can't hang around past closing. *keeping fingers crossed*
I will not shove “it” up my backside. I do not know what “it” is, but in my many years on this earth I have figured out that that particular port hole is best reserved for emergency exit only. -GK

Closing Early on Christmas Eve/Closed on Christmas

I'm happy that I only work a few hours on Christmas Eve since my store closes early. What's even better is that we're closed on Christmas Day!

We are open regular hours (8am - 10pm) Christmas Eve, and close at 6pm Christmas day.

No special hours for New Years.. just business as usual.

I'm working Christmas Day, but A) I volunteered to, B) it's only four hours, and C) the office is closed, I'm just here to deal with the obits and then scoot out. So no one will be harrassing me and I'll be able to dispense my own unique brand of justice to anyone who bothers me.

As most in the hospitality business know, there are no holidays. At least for staff on the front lines. Being admin staff, though, I do get a few holidays. And my awesome boss not only gave us Xmas Eve and Xmas, but he said we can take this Thursday and Friday (Dec. 20th & 21st) as holidays too!! Making a 6 day Christmas weekend for any of us that want it.
