then when they finally get the tv to her car she flips over the backseat only to reveal her husbands shotgun. very very illigal and pretty scary for our 15-17 yr old stock guys
Where I live, North Dakota, as long as there isn't a round in the chamber that is perfectly legal.

Yeah I'm not wierded out by seeing a firearm since I grew up with them and dad was a master sargent US army and hunted all his life for food I got a very strenuous and compleate trainign in how to handle a firearm. He made sure I understood the basics before we even hit the woods and then until I was 13 I got the barney fife treatment (1 bullet/shell in my shirt pocket) and passed his exam.

Which thinking back about this does remind me of something funny that happened during training for my firearms certification. There was this young kid who decided he was goign to bust a cap in the target's ass. The instructer caught him goofing around and let him do the twisted upside down gangsta grip while telling all the rest of us to watch him. Actually kinda ordered him to take the target like that. The kid fired and sprained his wrist and the shell casing came back and almost smacked him in the side of the head. (9mm glock). Instructor said lesson learned always always use a proper grip.

Just like in one episode of CSI. You watch enough movies, and you start to think people actually shoot like that.

          I've also fired a few handguns (a .38 and a .357) as well with my uncle's dad.
Forgive me if I'm asking something too personal or anything, but wouldn't that person be your grandfather? Not asking in a smart-alec way or anything, I've just spent the last five minutes wracking my brain to try to figure out who that person would be if they aren't your grandfather.

On the topic, though, while my family didn't really have any firearms, I've never personally been afraid of them, just cautious around them and respectful of what they are and what they can do.

Especially with all the "shoot-'em-up" video games around now (first person shooters and the like), it would probably benefit society to have children learn firearm safety. After all, being desensitized to violence while at the same time basically role-playing as a character who is nearly god-like in their ability to stand up and walk away after being shot several times does cause children to not understand the realities of firearms. Those children grow into adults who don't understand what firearms can really do.

Guns don't scare me, it's the idiots who don't understand what it is a firearm can do who scare me.

            Think: uncle by marriage.
Mom or Dad has a Sis that got married. Sis' husband becomes Uncle. Uncle's Dad is not kid's Grandfather, but I don't know what the proper relation is.

In my family anyone past immediately named is called cousin (mom, dad, grands, uncles and aunts)

In my family, anyone in your age bracket is a cousin, one step up is aunt/uncle, below is niece/nephew. We're very egalitarian, anyone two steps up or down gets called "Hey, you!"

Proper relation would be the way the poster said it: uncle's dad.

As for firearms, I myself was not raised around them, but have fired a few, been around a few, owned one briefly, and they generally don't freak me out. But again, not exactly raised around them as some of the people here were.

Which is why I stopped dead in my tracks the day years ago when I walked into my apartment and saw an M-16 assault rifle on my kitchen counter.

My roommate was in the Reserves, and while on duty actually stopped by the apartment. I knew he was in the Reserves, but he had never actually come buy in uniform or with weaponry, so that was a bit of an eye-opener. (He had the M-16 properly safetied, etc...his only failing with regards to regulations was having it in his home in the first place.)

I *was* raised around guns, and that would be a shocker for me.

And then I walked back out the door, closed it. Shook my head. Turned around, checked the number on the door, and walked back in.

At least, that's what I would have done. Seriously, that's a "Did I walk in to the right place?" moment.

Edit: whoo hoo! post 400! yea!

Actually, that is just about exactly what I did! As all the apartments there looked the same, for a moment I thought I was in the wrong one.* Was still wondering about that when my roommate came downstairs and saw my bewildered expression.

Wow now thats one of those jobs I'm not sure I'd want someone bringing their work home with them.

Although finding an M-16 on the kitchen table while interesting would be one of those brief twilight zone moments in life for me too.

I'd probably would have the gun taken apart and polished the sear and hammer and then write them a note detailing the improvements in weapon maintanace they need to make.
