  • crazy drunk customer gets tazered at work

Recently we got the po-po at the library, on the City's dime. Because God knows the Library won't pony up the money.

I didn't see this, sadly, so this is 2nd hand info. Friday a guy comes in and he's cursing and pacing and he goes to the computers, cursing and pacing and maybe making threats, so the lady police officer goes to him to talk to him. He's still cursing, and get's in her face. Then he pulls his fist back like he was going to hit her. Now the officer tells me she calls for back up and to get the ok to use force on the guy. She gets the ok and she tazers him. It doesn't affect him. So he gets tazered 5 times and finally he calms down and tells the officer "ok" whenever she asks him a question. Anyway, he's in cuffs and being lead out to get his ass in the slammer and one of my co-workers tells me that smoke was coming off his clothes from the tazering. Police officer lady tells me he get charged with assulting a police officer (I think) and for public intoxication.

Most likely he's a crazy homeless person. Hope he never comes back.
Time! Time! Time is what turns kittens into cats.

Don't teach me a lesson; all I learn is that you are an asshole.

Wow! How does a guy not be affected by a taser?

The other question is, how would tasering "calm someone down?"

after the initial shock I'd imagine you'd be quite fatigued... after all if I understand correctly a tazer works by sending an electrical voltage that interferes with the bodies neural system immobilizing the target... I'd think having all my muscles seize at once would be tiring and make me think twice about doing something stupid.

As always, I could be wrong and welcome any corrections.

It does happen and there are several reasons. I don't know all of them, but being on enough drugs will do it and I'm guessing if you're drunk enough that might be one too. Also, while one person could handle one level of voltage on a tazer, another person might only be able to handle half so different people respond differently (if I'm understanding properly, though I may be completely wrong on that one).

I wish we had taser guns on the plane for the loony terrorist threat and disruptive passengers! That would be SO cool.

Good question, if it didn't knock me out, I think I would just be more p'oed after being tazed.

I always thought that public libraries were funded on their respective City's dime to begin with... hence the whole idea of a "Public" library.
Sure, some libraries get private donations, but they are still one of the many socialist programs that the United States has had in practice for decades.
Police forces, Firefighters, Public Schools...etc are funded on "City dimes", too.

Now, if you don't work for a public library, then I can see where it would be a bit odd for the city to pay for/provide police protection in a privately funded business.

It knocks the crap out of you, but I can see someone with a high recovery and amped up on something getting back up after being tazed.

Come visit my library. I've been petitioning to have a desk for Metro cops to come do their paperwork for years. One summer, we had cops come down three times during my shift. -_-

I suggest a stun gun. like a tazer, but for close capacity areas, like a plane. bout 100 bucks, and legal.

                          Nope.
I work for a public library that is not funded by the municipality but instead by a benevolent organization "friends of xxxxxxx library". In a sense, we are a public library but a private entity.

Gotta answer these in reverse order:

When someone is hit with these, it stimulates and relaxes ALL the voluntary muscles in the body very rapidly over a short amount of time. That ticking sound you hear is the current going on and off again. It has the equivalent effect on the muscles of almost an hour of non stop exercise on the entire body. The person is calm from sheer exhaustion.

If a person is sufficiently affected from drugs usually meth which causes a major adrenalin boost, the muscles undergo two effects. One is that they are so tense that they cannot relax, rendering a taser ineffective. The other is that the muscles are already receiving very irregular signals from the brain, so a taser isn't changing the response. Multiple shots are often used simply to burn out the adrenalin so the taser can finally work.

I work for a public library that has it's budget funds from taxes. But the police who work here are paid overtime. So it isn't like one cop now has to work in the library as his/her regular beat. It's like paying for security (which we have), except the po-po can use force, hee.
