  • "You need to win us back"

Todays asshat came up to me looking for an HP toner cartridge. I showed him the one he wanted.

     That's WAY too much.
    <me> I'm sorry.
You know, with Circuit City going out of business you need to win us back. You should lower all of your prices.
    <me> ... What?
It's rediculous. You're not gonna win us back from Best Buy if you don't.

He storms out of the store and comes back in seconds later.

     Where's a manager?
<me> I'm the customer service lead.
You NEED to let your corporate know that you're not gonna win us back unless you lower your prices like Circuit City.
    <me> ... um...
*self-righteous-HURUMPH* I'll just get it at Best Buy.

First off, I don't know if Best Buy even CARRIES that particular toner... and if they did if they would be any cheaper.

Secondly... WTF?!? We need to lower our prices like Circuit City to win you back from Best Buy? Um.... there's VERY little overlap between Staples and Best Buy. Yes we both have computers, printers and ink. We are an OFFICE SUPPLY store, however, and we have like twice the ink they carry. We also carry like 5 times the printers. Oh, and we carry OFFICE SUPPLIES. THAT is our main business. We don't have games and TVs and movies.

Just another vulture from Circuit City trying to get something they don't deserve.

Wanna know why Circuit City's prices are so low at the moment? I'll let you in on a little secret.

BECAUSE CIRCUIT CITY IS LIQUIDATING ITS STOCK AND GOING OUT OF BUSINESS YOU FUCKING SIMPLETON.

He wants the cheapest price, he can go to Wally World. And save all of about 4 cents.

I LOVE STAPLES! It's my favorite store! I'm Kooky for Staples! I run around buying pens, hilighters, folders, ink, desk organizers, anything i can get my grubby little university students paws on.

When i become a teacher I will LIVE at the Staples! I WILL! I WILL!

      STAPLES!

Okay, so now that I'm done with the crazy. I must admit how hilarious I find it when people try to convince sales reps and Customer Service reps, and everyone above and below them. That this one individual should tell the whole of the company, and the suppliers that the prices need to be lowered to "Win back customers"

I mean, HP has a set price for the ink. And Staple has to charge slightly more so there will be a profit for both parties. Unless, the SC excepts you to pay Staples for allowing you the honor or working for them. Which is the stupidest thing one could do.

(Yes I really am that in love with Staples)

And we offer something Circuit City doesn't. It's called CUSTOMER SERVICE, and that costs money. Seriously, before they went under was anyone able to walk in there and find someone to help them without searching or waving a handful of cash around?

I'm one too! I'm just quieter about it. Staples is one of the places I'm not allowed in unattended with my purse.

On a somewhat related note, I came across something in the Sunday paper that I found somewhat amusing -- a sales flyer for Circuit City, adverstising things like "No payments for 18 months!" Obviously, this was printed before the company announced they were going out of business, but I wonder how many asses are going on and demanding that particular deal, despite the fact that the company won't be around in 18 months.

I want to know what location you went to. I worked there over Christmas and had 30 seconds to greet everyone who came into my section or I'd get in trouble. I actually had people go complain because it was policy for every customer to be greeted each time they came into a section. If a person was in Games where I worked and went over to TVs and then came back to Games I was suppose to greet them again.

Yeah, I doubt he'd be able to get toner for a laser printer in a Best Buy store. They have a fair amount of inkjet cartridges, but very little toner, though I did find some online that isn't in the stores.

At the electronics retailer where I work, we just had a big meeting about Circuit City's announcement and about how we should take care of the customers who were loyal to that company but will now be coming to us. Stuff like trying to show them that our company is just as good as or better than circuit, but the biggest point was: "We don't price-match liquidation sales!"

OT: I just found out that the one manager I have who I think is kind of a jerk (much less so than when I first started working with him, but still a jerk) dropped about $1000 into Circuit City stock about two weeks ago just because it was such a low price. I'm not happy about his loss, but I did find it amusing.

You're probably part of the reason Circuit City is bankrupt and Best Buy can keep ya.

Man, that would piss me off if I was a customer. I avoid Best Buy as much as I can for pretty much that reason.
