People constantly manage to spell my first name wrong, they also pronounce it wrong. I didn't think it was an uncommon name, I get the wrong spelling, because I knew a girl with the same name that spelled it the other way. Since I don't have my last name up anywhere here, my first name is Lauren. I usually have to correct people as soon as they get to the second letter, 90% of the time they say L-O.

People pronounce it like they would the male version of it, my name is not Lorne thank you very much. My father's wife calls me that all the time.

Very well sir... *points and laughs* Will that be all?

I suppose offering sympathy to his wife is also a bad thing...
If I were his wife, I'd consider not having to give him any as a BLESSING.

No, I'll just do a telephonic mind meld and extract it from your brain so I can charge your credit card for the crap you're ordering.
Alllrighty, Sir, that will be $40 for the flowers and $5,000 for the telepathic reading session. If you want me to keep all those skeletons I just found in there INSIDE the closet, the fee will be $20,000. Which one would you prefer, sir?

SC1: "Kathy, K like in camera, a apple, t as in tree, h as horse and y like yuma"
I wonder if that's the same Kathy who I know? She's not too bright, and it sounds like something she would say.

oh no, I get that it's a common spelling. It's just after years of it, it's annoying, it's not the person I'm talking to's fault (I never actually snap at people for it!). I do know quite a few people who even after years of knowing me, spell my name wrong. My SO's grandmother does it all the time and I've known her for 6 years.

Also, when I say my name people rarely get it right, they'll say Laura, Laurie, etc. I've even gotten Maureen (WTF?)...I'm not even that soft spoken, and it's not like my name is that uncommon. It's more the pronounciation that bothers me more than anything, because people always pronounce it like the male name.

                  My name is Polly.

                  Simple, right? As if.

Usually, I get people who want to spell it Pauly or Paulie (ugh), but as soon as I say P-o, they go, "Oh, Polly." Um, yeah, that's what I said.

I have people call me Molly (which, until I was married was almost understandable), but I can't fathom how people can mis-hear my name as Holly.

One teacher in junior high (6-8th grades) called me Wally Doodles. Yeah, he was an ass.

Wow....those are some very S-M-R-T people.*cookies for reference Last I checked camera was spelled with a C, not a K (even though I do understand that there's several different variations of the name Cathy). As for the lady with the prehistoric monitor and the guy who didn't get laid, you lose and sucks to be you. As for the card number guy, do you seriously expect us to know your card number right off the bat like we're psychic or something?! Don't be lazy, just read the damn thing off like you're supposed to.

...In my life I have seen it spelt "Loren" ONCE. The spelling "Lauren" is far more common over here, in fact, that name is extremely common in Australia...

Nor have I ever heard it pronounced "Lorne" etc. Lauren = Lauren. lol

Eh-heh... I'm guilty of this. However, it's not on purpose. With my accent/tendency to slur consonents/slight lisp... that's the only way it comes out! If I try enunciating more, it tends to sound like I'm being mocking or spitting out words. :/

So it's not always on purpose/fixable...

I understand things like that too. It's just people that I know *can* say it correctly but don't. My dad's wife does this all the time, so does her mom. She grew up in the same town I did and doesn't have any different accent.

It's a pet peeve, but generally I can let things go. Except when people can't get my name right and call me Laurie, Laura or anything else like that. I'll politely correct them there.

Nope, I'm Just Psychic Like That

and this week I got a whole lotta

Many SC: "You want me to read you the whole long number on my credit card? But it's so loooongg!

No, I'll just do a telephonic mind meld and extract it from your brain so I can charge your credit card for the crap you're ordering.
I get a lot of this too: people seem to think I can figure out their whole SSN from the last 4 digits, or that reading the last 4 digits of their CC number isn't really necessary.

A lot of my callers are teenagers who have never had to read off an SSN or CC before so I can sort of understand the hesitation, but the adults baffle me. All things considered it's a pretty minor issue but it's still a bit of a head-scratcher.
Be a winner today: Pick a fight with a 4 year old.
