8.99 last I saw at the corner store before taxes (9.78 after) It's 7 something down the road at the convience store, and if I want to ride my bike 7 miles to the Rez it's 5 something a pack there.... in the 7 years I've smoked the price of smokes have more than doubled on the Rez.

and i dont know about other states, but in ny state they're considering changing the laws on what taxes the rez can charge too.

not sure if it's just for smokes or for gas too

omg i may have to take this to fratching too - they want to add on a 4% tax to pay-for downloads (like itunes) as well as an 18% tax on non-diet sodas...

I say rable rable to the taxes on the Rez! I may have to actually quit smoking... which would be good for me, but sad that I'll be quiting because of cost to my wallet and not to my health.

well as of now there's no federal regulation on buying tobacco that's not a tobacco product (ie the plants)
but the local states might want to say something about it.

I say grow your own until it's illegal

I'm kinda glad. Maybe my Dad will quit smoking and it'll stick this year?

Wait, Pepper, did you say 18% tax on non-diet sodas?!?!

Governor Paterson estimates that an 18 percent tax on these beverages will reduce consumption by five percent.
and it doesn't say it here but from what I remember it's sugared drinks... (basically non-diet soda, juice drinks where there's <70% juice, etc)

Some of my coworkers had been combating the cigg prices by rolling their own cigarettes.

The price of that tobacco went up as well.

But did I just read that right? Higher taxes on sugary drinks?

                See you guys at Fratching!

Get THIS. It's caffeinated soap that works through the skin.

It's on order here to try it.

I drink Diet Mt. Dew now. Doesn't taste terrible, and it has the caffine of regular Dew (according to their claims--works for me though!). Also, lack of sugar means I don't have those nasty sugar crashes after a few hours.

On Wednesday, I was home sick...all. day. long. Around 7pm, I received a call listed as "Town hall" on the caller ID. Curious, I answered, it was one of my state's congressmen conducting a town hall meeting via the phone. I was intrigued, so I stayed on the line.

If you wanted to talk to the congressman, you pressed "0" and got in queue. I wanted to ask about student loans, so I got in queue...never got my chance to talk to him, he ran out of time (I guess I was called some 2 hours into the meeting) I did hear some very interesting, but at times ABSOLUTELY FUCKING HILARIOUS rants from various different constituents (sp?).

My favorite came from the veteran who was in vietnam and served his country and just loved his country...is a recovering alcoholic, smoker, concert attender, angry, disabled, father, elderly, smoker, disgruntled, and did I mention smoker? This guy was ALL over the board. He ranted on and on about how unfair the cigarette tax is and why don't they tax alcohol? (Uh, last time I checked, they do) He further went on and on about how he fought for this country in Vi-et-nam and how is it fair to tell him where he can and cannot smoke! He went to a concert the other night and people were drinking (which is when he mentioned he is a recovering alcoholic) and doing "dem drugs!" but he couldn't even smoke a cigarette. He was SO outraged over the tax that I swear I could hear the spittle flying off his tobacco stained lips. I kind of felt bad for being so entertained by his rant. The congressman couldn't get a word in edgewise...

Then...he dropped it - if only this country would legalize marijuana and tax that we could solve all our national debt problems. The congressman laughed and said, "I knew this would come up!".

I was grateful for the entertainment...my 800 channels of cable were sorely disappointing me that day.

Hey at this kind of tax rate, maybe they could.

Yeah, then in the meantime, we have the people using food stamps for their food and then blowing ten bucks on their ciggies.

                                Drives me nuts.
