  • Fired ... Over 30¢!!!

Disclaimer: This story is hearsay ... My husband told it to me because it happened at his work to one of his co-workers.

At a well-known pizza restaurant that my husband works at (he works as a waiter), he told me of a horrific story of one of his co-workers losing his job ... over 30 cents...

His co-worker is a delivery driver and, apparently, was on a delivery. This was on the poorer side of town, mind you... Everything about the delivery was normal, she didn't mutilate any of the specials they had, didn't have any obscure requests, didn't have a gargantuan bill and even paid with cash.

She gave the driver the money and said, "here," he handed her the pizza and walked away. She went into the house with her dinner.

And somehow, somehow, the driver got fired over this just because he didn't offer to give her the change back (which was a little over 30 cents). He just assumed that "here" meant, "here" as in, 'take it and go away'.

Now, for some odd reason, she didn't call out "hey, what about my change?" when he was leaving. Nor, did she call the store back and say, "the @#%*& driver didn't give me back my change!" Usually, a store credit will be given or the driver will go back to the house and give the change to the customer ...

But oh no. That would be the easy schmuck way of doing it.

Instead, she called CORPORATE. Yes, she called CORPORATE.

And took it. ALL. THE. WAY.

May I remind once again, that this is over 30¢.

She somehow managed to get her complaint extremely high up on corporate ladder - I was told that she spoke with the Corporate President just to get this poor fellow fired.

    In which he was.

Not only did it piss him off, it also upset his co-workers.

In the end, this whole thing resulted in her home address getting passed around by the employees ...
This area is left blank for a reason.

That's a classic case of "throwing out the baby with the bath water".

Did she figure going straight to Corporate, would get her a year's worth of free pizza, instead of perhaps one pizza, by complaining at Store level?

Please say that one day when she checked her mailbox, there were 30 envelopes in there, each containing a money order for $0.01

I would have quickly called my lawyer and find out what that customer actually said. If that customer lied, I would have sued them for slander, and if I won, put a lien on everything they owned, or will ever own.

To err is human, to blame someone else shows good management skills.

.30?! I wouldn't have even bothered calling the store for that much. I would have just shrugged it off, no big deal. It's 30 cents, totally not worth it.

at my store we arent really alloud to carry change because it will go over 20 dollars then unless its part of the 20 dollars then we risk giving a customer a dollar in dimes because the paid with two 20s after he just made change for another 20.

if i was fired over not giving 30 cents i would have sued becaus enot only do i not carry change no one else does.

At my pizza place, the driver responsible for even a dollar is to always offer, because money's a very big issue. I can say from experience that anyone at any place would likely be fired if it weren't the first time that happened.

Then again, the customer was an idiot who needed to decide between passive-aggressive and batshit revenger!

Call me a regulation Nazi, but their asses should've been fired, too.

Then again, maybe they were just warning each other about how to treat her probably-sensitive-money-nature because of the incident?

                    Then again everything XD

30 cents? That's a crappy tip! And then to get fired because the customer walked away.

I suddenly remember Delenn's line from Joe's script. Not a bad prospect. I am not afraid. In the meantime, let me close my eyes and sense the beauty around me. And take that breath under the dark sky full of stars. Breathe in. Breathe out. That's all."

I expect her name and address were passed around as a warning; at the pizza place where I used to work, there were several such customers who had warnings on their files. Like the guy who was nicknamed "Gacy", due to being so creepy, we thought he sounded like a serial killer in training. He always used to request a female driver, for one thing, even tho we never used to grant his request, he still kept on asking. O_o

I suspect they were trying to get some kind of freebie out of it. Some people have no shame.

If I worked at a pizza place I would want her address, especially if I were a driver. I would refuse to take the pizza. Bitch can come get it her damn self after getting a coworker fired over $.30?
IMO perfectly legit reason to deny service.

I wonder what exactly the woman told corporate? Must've been something really bad/wrong (like "I paid with a hundred" or something)...

30¢ is nothing.... and it sure seems like she was setting up whoever showed up for free stuff. I do hope the store doesn't deliver anything to her ever again.
