When I delivered pizzas, we used to charge 10 cents to process checks. Anyone want to guess how many people paid with checks and didn't tip? Yeah, that's right. Mr. "I-don't-have-cash-on-me" just made ME pay the store for part of his pizza. I remember what jerks people could be, so this really cheeses me off.

If I was the person in corporate taking the complaint, I would have probably laughed at her for being stupid enough to walk away without mentioning change. Then again, I'm not one to sympathize much with customers anymore. I'm really good at sounding sincerely interested in the stupid complaints while tuning out, then disregarding them as irrelevant afterward. It has to be a customer I know fairly well or a particularly bad reasonable complaint before I take it seriously. Regulations or not, it would have served her right to end up with a stack of bad pizzas left at her door. Not saying I would do such a thing because it wouldn't be worth criminal charges or job loss, but I would certainly laugh at the idea.

Anyway, people like that make me glad I don't work as a delivery driver. I would certainly refuse to deliver a pizza to that address if I knew a story like that was related to it.

speaking as currently employeed delivery driver---->

I am willing to bet that if indeed this driver got fired BY CORP (supposedlyover 30 cents), the woman most likely LIED through her teeth. possibly something to the effect the driver threatened to rape her or her dog/cat, cursed her out worse than a drunken sailor, or left a big dump on her doorstep or in with the pizza.

I would love to know EXACTLY what she told the Corpricks. It has to be a whopper.

Oh and Unholpet---> the passing around of addresses is a VERY common amongst drivers. we want to know who we are dealing with along with their nasty/stupid/annoying habits esp if they are chronic stiffers. we have several addresses where the customer DEMANDS exact change (even if it is just ONE FRACKING penny) back. I assume that the good employees of Karma_Gypsy's DH's store had no malice in their hearts.

I wouldn't be surprised if the woman had neglected to mention to corporate the actual AMOUNT the driver kept and instead just focused on the fact the driver had "stolen all of her money and not given any change." SCs so seldom put things in the right perspective.

I would have refused them the pizza until they wrote out a new cheque or taken it back to the store with me. If they can't pay the full amount owned then they do not deserve the goods.

What do you do if the person moved from that address and there was a new person trying to order a pizza? I always wondered how you know if the person is new or not.

That was my guess. She probably didn’t say how much, and corporate probably didn’t ask. All they heard (and all she said) was that the driver left with out offering her change. More of a lying through omission thing. I’m also willing to bet that the lady went to corporate because she thought she’d get better ‘results’. A lot of people do that. And a lot of people have no idea that corporate rarely asks for details regarding the situation (which is why they head there first to begin with.).

Did she figure going straight to Corporate, would get her a year's worth of free pizza, instead of perhaps one pizza, by complaining at Store level?

That would be my guess at her motive for that nonsense...or simply spite.

now usually the pizza person asks me if I want change back, but but i always give them tip and say it's all good.

but 30 cents? that's like a "fuck you" tip in my book. pizza guy usually gets about 5 bucks or so, especially if it's crappy weather

As for her address being passed around the store, I doubt any harm will come to her, her house or her yard art ... Usually, it's an instance where it gives the drivers a heads up (like 'hey, go to this house and you might LOSE YOUR JOB'). But yeah, I bet she probably got gift cards and apologies up the wazoo for her "inconvenience" ...

It kinda sucks for the driver, because he was fired by Corporate, he can't ever work for that pizza chain ... anywhere, ever again.

The manager didn't want to fire the driver, but there was nothing he could do about it ...

Wish I knew the name of this company, so I can not patronize them.

Any company that's willing to fire a delivery driver over 30 freaking cents isn't worth doing business with, IMO.

She gave the driver the money and said, "here," he handed her the pizza and walked away. She went into the house with her dinner.

And somehow, somehow, the driver got fired over this just because he didn't offer to give her the change back (which was a little over 30 cents). He just assumed that "here" meant, "here" as in, 'take it and go away'.
I wonder if that women is related to the one in this pizza delivery story. Pizza delivery guys just can't win.
