Guest: yea Dave, I cant find the washer and dryer in my rental property

Me: ok let me see if I can find out where it is

    I find out

Me: ok ma'am, it is under the cottage

Guest: under the cottage? You must be kidding me. Do you have any idea how inconvenient this is for me? I have to walk all the way down there to do my laundry and you all must have known about this. Dave, I am upset and expect to be compensated for this.

Me: you want us to compensate you for having to walk downstairs to do your laundry?

Guest: yes and I don't appreciate your sarcastic tone. I am calling you with a legitimiate concern. How dare you trivialize it. I mean how dare you. I am about to get really pissed off.

Me: well it sounds like you already are

Guest: you havent seen pissed off yet but you're about to........I hope you're happy, the first day of our vacation is ruined thanks to you...I didnt pay all this money to be treated like this......Never has anyone treated this way.....(and on and on and on for about 18 minutes)

Manager says no money back.........it was my favorite manager who basically told the lady if you dont want to go downstairs to do laundry than wear dirty clothes.

Okay, that is a new level of entitlement right there.

If you had told them that the washer and dryer were in town in the laundromat I could see them having this reaction, but in this case the washer and dryer are in the same place they are on pretty much every home on the PLANET... in the basement... and they go off?!

Ugh... I think your customers certainly have balls. They think they've found a reason to get a discount (i.e. no washer and dryer), and when their supposed 'flaw' turns out to not be a flaw at all (washer and dryer right there), they bull ahead anyway.

wow .... now granted it would be a problem for me, being handicapped, but then again i am careful enough to ask well ahead of time about accessabillity issues.

Though I have no idea why having the laundry in the same building in a basement is a hardship ... a laundramat would be a hardship...

If it was in the living space they would complain about that instead.

You're probably right. That lady sounds like she is not happy unless she has something to bitch about.

            Definite EW right there.

Fuck the first day of their vacation....who does laundry at ALL on their vacation? Seriously, unless you are down for like two weeks or a month....in which case don't you think you might ASK about the laundry facilities, you stupid fucking cow?

Me, I go on vacation with a suitcase filled with the clothes I will or might wear....and come back with a suitcase of "to do" laundry. Duh. Why waste my time on vacation doing something so mundane?

With all your stories about these vacation idiots....

                    I wonder when they'll ask:
... "what do you mean I have to open the door and use a key!"
... "what? I'm supposed to get my own food? And chewing! It takes so looooooong can't you pre-chew it for me?"
... "but...but... why should I have to breath myself! It's a vacation dammit! I've paid enough to have it done for me!"

I don't know...seems to me the fact that the laundry facilities are under the cottage would be something I would want my customers to know before they rent from me. After all, it is a bit of an inconvenience that they should know about before they decide to lay out money, and if that doesn't suit them, they can ask about other places that might better suit their needs.

Depending on how long the vacation is, I can see them wanting to do laundry.

I don't like to pack heavy, so having the ability to pack fewer clothes and wash in between would be something I would do, vacation or not.
I absolutely hate coming back home with a suitcase full of clothes that need to be washed and put away.

Not to pull a "that's not sucky", but just a bit of constructive advice, as I see it.
Yeah, a lot of the customers in VRS's tales do suck, but in many cases, a bit of communication ahead of time would save a lot of grief in the end.

I know if I was on here daily posting the sheer volume of stories that I read from him, with the quantity of customers flying off the handle with self-entitlement, I would start to look at my approach to customer service after a while.

Not all customers are sucky. Many are, but sometimes, dealing with people like that can cause a person to become jaded in their dealings, doing only the bare minimum required.

Sometimes, an ounce of prevention in the first place can save a headache in the end.

It does seem to me that sometimes the owners of the rental properties are sucky and non-communicative with their customers, and Dave has to deal with the fallout. Suck on both ends would make me jaded for sure.

I do know when my family was looking for a rental place last year, the majority of them have the laundry on the floor level. And since the houses are raised due to flooding issues, I think the house in the OP likely had the same setup. But since most of the houses we looked at had a floorplan like this, it would be safe to guess that this is the default arrangement. And if it mattered to you to have something different, call before you book!

                          But that takes actual logic.

GASP! You mean people actually breathe for themselves on vacation?! I am shocked!

tehehe. Yeah I don't see why a laundry room in the basement is such a hassle. Unless she's used to having directly next to the master bedroom. That's how it's set up at my friends house. The laundry set up is in a bedroom on the second floor. But then again, that's where the bathroom is, so it make the most sense to hook it up there.

Honestly, Dave you are just the jelly in suckbread sandwich.
