For 18 months in 1998 and 1999, I traveled the U.S., visiting friends, family, and places I just wanted to go. During this time, I dropped in to the Minneapolis area to visit a friend. Having never even been to the state of Minnesota at all, I managed to get a little lost, despite my normally excellent sense of direction/navigational skills. To double check where I was, I pulled over at a corner gas station which happened to be closed. NOT to ask them where I was or where my destination was, as they were OBVIOUSLY closed, but (a) to be able to stop and read my damn map, and (b) to be able to have light to read aforementioned map.
Not a couple minutes after I did this, there are flashing red and blue lights behind me.
