I second the suggestion that as soon as someone pulls "I'll sue.." you go with "in that case, sir/ma'am, you need to speak with head office' legal department. I am not authorised to speak on <company's> behalf in legal matters."

and ooo in NY State at least you can look up who passed the bar exam in the past year.
