...no, I think it's still lasting a lifetime. A slightly -abbreviated- lifetime, maybe, but still a lifetime.

I know, it's very insane some of the stuff we carry. This set is made from 100% Merino Wool from New Zealand and is the warmest natural material blah blah blah. The people that come into our store like to buy expensive stuff just for the sake of being expensive. This man comes in every year and buys a $550 snow suit set for his son - who is now only around 6 years old. My CW mentioned that it would be great to hand it down (they had another son around 3). The father's reply:

"We don't 'hand things down' (uppity tone). This will go into the attic until a relative can use it. I'm buying one for him too"

And then he proceed to spend just over $300 on a set for the 3 year old. Some people have more money than should be allowed.
      and

People like that are the reason Karl Marx got so popular. I wonder what boy-toys he's bought to compensate throughout his life.

I wold! And have! Then again, it was for the yarn and I knit them myself so they were exactly what I wanted.
You have a lot to learn about how to justify your yarn budget! You're not spending a CENT for the socks. You got free socks, after spending $25 for several hours of knitting time. Speaking of which... any ideas what to do with a free ring shawl?

"I'm a Retailian, Jedi tricks don't work on me, only money." ?
I started to fix that (Toydarian, yadda yadda radda...) then I saw what you did there.

Actually shouldn't that be, "I'm a Retailian, Jedi tricks don't work on me, only money." ?
No, I think the original quote works, since it's from Jabba, a gangster. And most gangsters are capitalists.

I have to give props for how J pwned that SC! So typical for an SC to spout off how they're a good customer and even have to gall to demand some outlandish discount /freebies because they believe that they deserve it. What SC's like Mrs. Bitchasaurus Rex deserve is this

Wow, the knitters are coming out in spades on this thread! Guess my sister didn't realize how valuable her 100% kettle-dyed Merino wool (Malabrigo of course) hand-knitted hat was or she wouldn't have forgotten that I gave her it last year!

Anyone else here on Ravelry? I'm Rowan619 there. (And not going to finish my holiday knitting w/out an extra few weeks added to the calendar! )

                        Pics help the thinking.

I've got a Mandala shawl sitting tucked away that I wore for a nighttime walk on the beach with my husband.

AriRashkae there too. Now we need a CS group.

auntiem 67 sweeties - knit 9 pairs for x-mas this year

as for the customers of your store OP - I live in "hippy trippy eco hell" so REI and such stores abound - there is no reason things should cost that much. We were just at the local "cool" store getting ammo and toys for x-mas and prices are reasonable there. (plus there were two brave deer hanging out in the parking lot).

So they don't mind being thought cheap by the relatives to whom they hand stuff down, but to their own offspring, who would have a better idea of the item's provenance, that's a no-no.
