  • Thanks for helping yourself to my dinner

Tonight, I loaded up a plate at the salad bar with a bunch of cut fruits for my dinner break. Paid for it, went to the dining area and sat it at my usual table. Went to get a fork and napkin.... then.....

3 hambeasts (to put it nicely) are sitting around my plate. Using their filthy hands to dig through all of the pineapple, orange slices, etc that were on my plate.

I'm still shaking from being so pissed and it's been 3 1/2 hours. I walked up to them, asked them how the fruit was. They said excellent. Then I smiled and thanked them for eating my dinner and now I had nothing to eat during my dinner break, and had just spent my last dollar buying that plate (all true). They looked at me like I'd just stepped on a puppy's head, looked back at the plate, and I grabbed it off the table and threw it in the trash. I'm not about to eat food that someone with nasty hands has been digging through.

The best/worst part is.. they didn't buy ANYTHING whatsoever while in the store. They walked out of the store completely empty handed, while giving me the stink eye.

    Fucking assholes.

I commend you on your self control.

I'd be seeing red if I were in that situation.

Wow Bean, that totally sucks...I know how you feel though, my 85 yr old grandmother lives with me, my mom & my step-dad & she does the exact same thing...She will think nothing of poking her fingers into your food (let me mention here that she does not wash her hands on regular basis if at all) while you're trying to eat or she'll lick off of the spoon in whatever is left in the bowl/pan & then stick the spoon (that she just slobbered all over) back into the bowl...It's gotten to the point to where she's not allowed into the kitchen unless one of us is in there to make sure the leftovers will be safe for the rest of the family to eat later (and we have to hide those leftovers from her so she doesn't help herself to it while no ones watching)...Whenever we go out to eat, I sit as far away from her as I can get w/o actually sitting at a different table, let's just say I carry hand sanitizer everwhere & it gets alot of use at home too

It's a bit late now, but make a complaint as a *customer* to a manager and get a refund or replacement. Really, the women should have been charged for your dinner though.

You were way too nice. I'd be demanding they pay for my food they just stole. Loud enough that other people would hear. Before telling them to get the hell out.

What the hell goes through people's minds??? And it's people like them that make me paranoid someone might steal my food if I go grab ketchup or something.

Um... As I know you would not be so naive as to assume there was thought in those hambeasts' skulls, I would guess that all that goes through their heads is the wind from one ear to the other.

I'm betting they steal the last bit of hamburger or fries off of plates when they pass by dirty tables at restaurants too. Eeee, just think of what they might have by now...

I don't understand, these were just random people who were walking by and saw a plate of fruit on a table and decided to sit and eat it? How does this happen? What is this place you work at?
I was not hired to respond to those voices.

I just can't wrap my brain around that one.

bean, any chance they had seen you set it down, and knowing that you were a lowly employee, they felt as customers (well, not really) they were "entitled" to it?

That's the only (il)logical reason I can come up with. Otherwise, it's just plain gross behavior, from both the standpoint of the person(s) that would be stealing off of someone else's plate, and the person the plate belonged to.

Question: do you work at this place? And if so, do you think management might have taken pity on you for this situation, and allowed you another plate of fruit? And why isn't that salad bar all you can eat? Aren't all salad bars all you can eat? (Remember, I'm an idiot. That is why I ask these questions.) And if you don't work at this place, couldn't you go up to the manager and tell him/her what happened?

That being said, you were far more controlled than I would have been. What do I mean? Well, I have been known to stab with a fork any hands that reach on to my plate and attempt to grab my food....and those hands belonged to my friends! If you don't ask permission to grab my food, expect a retaliatory response. If I had that happen at work, I would have (barely) politely told the nitwits what they had done, and tell them they needed to pay for it. If something like that happened at a place I didn't work at? Oh, they would have heard me in Boise!

I thought I was the only one who had something like this happen! On one of the ships I was on I filled a plate at the buffet, realized I'd forgotten something (damned if I can remember what now years later) and came back to find this 300lb bloated sack 'o' crap eating my lunch! I was much luckier since it was a free buffet (I just went and filled myself another plate) but who does that? WTF is going through their mind that says it's ok?
