For all the questions.... yes, it happened at work, while I was on the clock (we have paid lunch breaks). They watched me set the food down at the table, watched me walk off to get a fork, etc.

Our dining area in the store is right next to the customer service desk.

Our salad bar is NOT all you can eat, it's charged by the pound. Very, very expensive at that, since most of the stuff on it is organic.. a whopping $7.99/lb. Though that works out to $6.32/lb with my employee discount. Still horribly expensive, but oh so so so delicious.

    I got a full refund.

poofy_puff: I work at a grocery store. One that specializes in natural and organic foods, happens to be the largest grocery chain in the US that does so. Typing "organic grocery" in Google will give you a hint (hint: it starts with Whole).

At least you got a refund. Doesn't make it OK what they did, but at least you were made "Whole" again.

ETA: Even if they were homeless people, places of business such as yours and others donate their expired food to soup kitchens and homeless shelters, so that is not a valid excuse.

One of my co-workers had this happen once, though Not at our place of business.

She'd gone to one of the local restraunts to eat and had just gotten her food (and taken a bite) when this large woman walks up next to her and asks "That looks good, is it?"

When my friend says yes the woman proceeds to take the burger and take 2 great big bites out of it and leave. I'm not sure what the manager did to the woman, however he apologized profusely to my friend (who's a really nice person) and got her a new meal.

Once my friend got over her mad somehow everyone ended up calling her Norbert (Or however that is spelled, from the movie which contains a similar scene). My friend eventually chose one of the Kitchen girls (the one teasing her the most) to call the female character from that movie.

For the life of me I can't remember the names. XD

Nothing he really could do to the woman, since she immediately left afterwards. I mean, seriously, what can he do? Call the police for theft? Not even worth the bother.

He could call the police. After all, if it had been my plate, there's about to be a fight.

What EWs!! Plus, if they're at your store, I'm betting they have more money to spend on food than you do. I'd probably have done something to get myself fired.

I'm betting Bean wasn't so much self-controlled as just stunned senseless that these people were that obnoxious.

Bean, if you were indeed possessed of enough self-control to not strangle them then you are a way better person than I am.

Yes, but we are not talking about a fight, GK. We are talking about the manager not getting wind of this until after the fact, and after the offender had already left the premises. What would calling the police accomplish? Would it get the two bites of the burger back? No. Would it result in any prosecution? No. Would it be a good use of the time and effort of the local constabulary? No. Chances are, they themselves would see it as a waste of time. And I can't say I would blame them.

Now, if the police were called to prevent a fight, or in response to a fight and/or assault, that's a different matter. But we are not talking about what you would do, we are talking about what the manager could have done after the fact in the case of Furthea's coworker.

Sorry, I just don't see any positive result from calling the police in that situation.

3 hambeasts (to put it nicely) are sitting around my plate. Using their filthy hands to dig through all of the pineapple, orange slices, etc that were on my plate.
That...that's just beyond comprehension. I'm glad you got refunded, but still! That should never have happened. Their mommas didn't teach them any manners, apparently.

I LOVE that store and wish I could regulary shop there as my sugars run more normal, even with a few junk food things...and that the food taste delightful. But alas the closest one is in Ann Arbor and the gas plus price of food would go way over my budget.

Sorry you had to deal with these...things.
