  • ...Seriously?

This guy comes up and wants to cash a check. Where I work there is a big long process and you do give out quite a lot of information that seems more than anybody needs but I just follow the rules, I am a sheep and I'm sure there are reasons behind it.

Anyway, I told him straight up what I was going to do--I always tell them exactly what is needed just in case they decide to say no. Most importantly I always say that we do require their social security numbers, after all they are filling out a credit application.

Anyway, he wasn't as "sucky" as he was weird and I had a slip of the tongue with him.

    SG: Strange guy

I tell him all about what we need for him to cash it. He said okay this is his LAST check and (important later) it had his woman's name on it BUT she didn't have a players card which is essential for the process.

I'm scanning in his ID on our mini scanner---note this only goes into our computers not the whole world or the FBI. Next, I ask him for his finger print on the check---seems normal enough right?

    SG: You want my fingerprint!?

ME: Yes... Anywhere on the front is fine.

SG: I will NOT let you give my fingerprint out all over the world! What happens if I refuse?

Me: Then I can't pay you.

SG: I am refusing. This is crazy.

    Me: Seriously?

(I actually said this--- I was so shocked)

    SG: I am leaving!

And he grabs his ID and check and stomps away. Regardless that he gave me his social, address, phone number and anything else you can think of so easily but he FREAKED about his finger print.

I don't understand why. It wasn't going anywhere.... Just to the bank to be deposited. And yes I was going to scan it into the computer but its not a big deal....

    ME:

Later he came back and asking if his wife could cash it.

I told him I had already shredded his app and would have to start all over again. And he had already signed the check and she'd have to get a players card.

I asked the supervisor and she is awesome and said they'd both have to finger print it lol He left in a huff again.

Came back LATER AGAIN and asked if he could do a credit card transaction which if you do that you are sent to the cage and have to fingerprint the paper which I told him THREE times. Lucky for him his wife did it and didn't mind it.

I was almost wondering if he believed in aliens, had a record or was just odd.

But it was weird. I was mad for awhile cuz I wasted so much time with him. But weird, right!?

He was probably afraid he'd get put into IAFIS, and get nabbed for something.

Either that or he's one of those guys who doesn't want to be in the "system", forgetting that if you have a driver's license, social security number, credit cards, bank account, then you are "in the system."

You have to give a fingerprint to take the nursing boards. One of my classmates asked what would happen if she refused to give her thumbprint.

"Then you can't take the test," came the reply.

I wanted to be a nurse. I gave them my thumbprint and didn't make a fuss.

For a gaming license you have to give your thumb prints as well. Its funny... Sometimes we forget to get their thumbprints and will just put our own on them to avoid us getting into trouble lol Had he been nicer I would have just done that or gotten the wife's. That part really isn't that important. The social is the main one we can't forget. Go figure.

I dunno, I've seen the fingerprint given as a crime deterrent. You say no one else will see it, but if it's a fraudulent check, then it can be forwarded to police. I don't like the idea of giving it over either, but that's something I'd probably enforce.

My old retail job used to promote credit cards. The customer would enter their SSN, their name and address, and birthdate, but would then balk at providing a phone number. . Um, I think telemarketers are the least of your problems at this point.

*raises hand* I'm Aethian and I have players cards for twelve casinos.

Yea...I was just being a wiseass Anakah, I know you have to give a thumb print, but I don't write checks for more money nor do I get cc cash advances. I've seen people get all irate because they have hit their limits and still need that one more hand. It's frightening.

I had to have all 10 fingerprints for my pharmacy tech licensing. I didn't care.

It's weird. They take your thumbprint to keep people from taking the test for the candidate, but since you can get results in days, I can't see how that keeps the ringers out.

More and more states are requiring full fingerprinting and a full criminal background check before you can get a license. People balk at this because they fear their past DUI, drug addiction, shoplifting charge, assault, and worse.

I am constantly asked by nursing students if these problems will keep them from getting a license.

The answer always . . . it depends. It depends on the charge, how long ago, was it a felony, etc.

Plus where you resided before your "moms womb"?

Busch Gardens in Tampa has my right index finger print they scan when I go there(I accidently used my left finger once and it wouldn't let me though)

They did a thing on mythbusters to see if they could steal a fingerprint and trick a machine that scans them, and they did, but it's a long process, and I'm fairly confident nobody is going to go through all of that trouble for my finger print

That guy needed to chill out.

To get a security clearance pass at the airport, you have to give all 10 fingerprints plus eye scans. Takes about ten minutes all told. I had to go through it twice because (being right handed) my right hand prints were a bit worn down. *shrug* I just use my left finger for the scanners. I dislike the eye scanners though. I can't hold still long enough, usually.

My first thought is that he's wanted for something. All that other info can be faked. A fingerprint can't.

That's what I was thinking--something to do with jail. But its funny that we DID have someone who had a fake ID and everything else and we had her fingerprint and they still couldn't catch her. I almost wanted to say: well, sir quite honestly your fingerprints are all over the counter but that's mean.

I don't know I just never thought of it being something scary.... But maybe I would if I were on the other side of the cage? I've gotten so used to it that its nothing anymore.
