Well, you can nuke them - 5 to 10 seconds, and they're hot again. Not quite as good as fresh, but definitely better than cold.

But yeah, there are local places I've preferred more than Krispy Kreme.

        *hurls all over the thread*

Sorry.... I can't stand KK donuts in any way, shape, or form. They're tasteless, over-puffy, over-sweet, and have no substance. Give me a real doughnut any day.

Amen, sista. KK is so bland; huge disappointment when I finally had the opportunity to try them. Even fresh out of the oven, they don't do much for me. :-/

A KK about 15 miles away closed a few years go. The nearest is almost 35 miles away. Thankfully a Sonic is going up in it's place and a Five Guys oped up a few miles from my house. I'm content.

Five Guys rocks! Guess where I had dinner the night before my surgery? Guess where hubby must go poste-haste to get me foods after I deliver any children we might have? OMG, that place is just soooo goooooood!

I'm not a big fan of DD...their donuts always taste stale to me...and I can't drink the coffee because they don't have soy milk, which Starbucks does.

I'm not a huge DD fan. The local one is pretty lackluster. But even bland DD is so far above KK it's not even funny.

There are a couple of local doughnut shops that do their own, here, that are just divine. I may have to pick some up while I'm out tomorrow.

Oh, and as for the KK closings: they way oversaturated the market with franchises everywhere. But, unlike SBs, there wasn't nearly the demand for KK once the hype machine stopped working.

I don't care which brand of donuts everyone loves. I'm sad and unhappy because I can't have them. I haven't had a donut in . . . about ten years?

Bet you blasphemers would change your tune if you ever went in there when they were making them and the bastards were literally rolling out of the oven and into your sticky little hand moments later.

Clearly, you have never eaten a Krispy Kreme donut.
I have intentionally given up KK... also, please continue to read my comment, there...

Pointedly ignoring you. I don't care about donuts after noon, so, really, the entirety of my shift, I could give less than a toss about the KK donuts we sell.

KK started to move up into northern Illinios and Wisconsin about 10 years ago. We got "flooded" with them about 5 years ago here in NE Cheeseheadland. YUM unfortuneately they saturated the market and oversold themselves plus all of the financial problems the parent company did to itself like over expanding/ over extending themselves). Now all of the stores I know of in my town and the surrounding towns closed after only being open like 2 or 3 years

While I admit I love the small Mom and Pop type bakeries because make the best, KK's doughnuts just had that "SMELL" esp when hot off of the conveyor with icing literally DRIPPING off.

the other unforturneate thing is that the long time open local Mom and Pop type of bakery/doughnut place are becoming a rare thing these days. had one about a mile from me and they just went out of business like 2 months ago VERY SAD day.
I'm lost without a paddle and headed up SH*T creek.

*urp* bleh. Not a chance. The smell from driving past one makes me nauseous. I can't imagine how bad it would be in a shop actually making them.

I do like KK, though I haven't had them in years. I never went to the one in CT before they went buhbye, oh well. I used to see them like Cracker Barrel, a treat when I went to FL, haha.

Now there are Cracker Barrels up around here....they have lost their charm.

Disclaimer: I used to work for Krispy Kreme, so that's not going to help my opinion, as was mentioned by someone who I apparently forgot to quote.

I also very much object to the fact that they have such limited selection. Yes, they have 16 kinds, but all but 2 of those (most of the time) are yeast doughnuts. And they're all the same base. Even the filled ones are the same as their so-called old-fashioned ones. And what, I ask, is the point of a doughnut store that doesn't have crullers?

They're quite addictive. And I ate them while I worked there, but I never liked them all that much. My main complaint about them is that they're not particularly good, but the ways in which they screw them up (adding too much fat and sugar) really ruins you for normal doughnuts for a while afterwards. When they're hot they're good, as mentioned, but that's the best that can be said for them. You eat one and think "gee, this is pretty good, I bet it would be WONDERFUL if it wasn't quite as fatty, and didn't have this really thick sugar glaze." Unfortunately, the fat and sugar are what make them as good as they are.
