Minot - there's a phrase that went around the AF when I was in. 'Why not Minot?'
I'm sure someone here can finish the quote.
Would it be cheating for me to finish it, since I'm the one that mentioned Minot to begin with? I can't help myself: Freezin's the reason!

Oh, and Andara, you find that "close" is a relative term if you've ever lived someplace like Minot. I was talking to a local couple once when they suggested we all go to Red Lobster for dinner. I got confused 'cuz there is no RL in Minot. "No," says they, "It's in Bismark!"

Bismark is two hours straight south from Minot. That's two hours there, two hours back... four hours round trip just to get franchise seafood. There were other people who would travel to FARGO to eat dinner!!! That's a four or five hour trip ONE WAY.

Scary part is that after living there for three years my family thinks the same way.

I really need to ask. Is the "t" in Minot pronounced? Because that scans better if it is.

I was born and raised in Garden Valley... just a stones throw outside of Sac. I personally wouldn't move back but only because Cali is not Ferret Friendly... and that is the ONLY reason. I actually loved Sac. ^_^ I'm super excited cause I am going down there next weekend, I get to spend my birthday in my home town! YEY!

Yup, the 't' is pronounced. Weeze Amer'kins, not French.

Doesn't wearing Lakers gear in Sactown pretty much mark a guy as looking for a fight?
It used to be that way when the Lakers and Kings were both good teams and meeting each other in the playoffs a few years back. When the Kings were in the playoffs, there wasn't a person in this town who didn't know about it. Games were constantly sold out for a few years. So yeah, if you came around here in enemy colors, some wacko would have his say.

During the infamous '02 Western Conference Finals, I was a sophomore in high school. It was like a sea of Kings' jerseys and a small pond of Laker jerseys. Imagine all the smack talk, the verbal abuse and the rogue physical abuse. Yeah, at our high school, it was that bad. Even long after the series was over, there was always some squabble about the series.

              It was insane.

For those who aren't familiar and are curious: this should give you an idea.

Also, the world of basketball fandom is divided into two. Laker fans, and people who hate the Lakers with a passion.
I believe so. The same with Yankee fans.

Just send him down heah to the Big Easy, where many of our bars don't even OPEN until 10 pm...

A bar in every pot, and a drunk on every corner...And PROUD of it, tho I have no idea why ^_^

I'm sure some of our drunkier citizens will figure out that he's "not from around here" sooner or later. *whistles innocently* I'm sure they can...er...sit him down and have a nice long chat with him regarding the importance of not being a dick.

Wow. Lord help them if they ever go to New York, which is more-so of all of that, and faster-paced, too.

Ah, and that, right there, is the reason I will never live in a small town.

I'm a city girl through and through and would hate being more than, say, an hour from anything I wanted regularly.

Yeah. That's one of the things I really hate about this state is the asinine way they deal with common pet animals. >.< And the stance on ferrets is not only outdated, but was pretty shaky to begin with.

I hate, hate, hate these people. I'm always getting people trying to agree with me that New Mexico is a horrible place.

Thing is, they're seeing a white girl and assume that I've been here about 5 years. They are then very surprised to find that I'm a native New Mexican and don't take kindly to my state being insulted by gringos (we can complain about it, though ).

If you don't like it, go the hell back to where you came from an take your damn attitude with you. Nobody made you come here.

A few weeks ago I had a guy that checked in here in nothingy-little Socorro. We're a small town in the desert with a small, very nerdy college.
You said it, I didn't! Actually, I've got nothing against Tech at all. They don't have classless football/basketball fans. Oh, the stories I could tell you about the tacky Lobo fans.

But almost all of my friends hate living here. They say it's ugly (you want ugly, go to New Mexico! :P [mostly kidding. sort of. I like parts of NM a lot])
I know you're kidding, but I've heard plenty of people say that in all seriousness. I just don't get it. Haven't they ever seen pictures of the Organ Mountains, White Sands, Shiprock, our sunsets.

Yep. 'Freezin's the reason' finishes it.

My AFSC was Weather - specifically, I was a Weather Observer. Had I gone to Minot, one of my jobs would have been to measure the snow.

I like it cool (some say cold) but I am so glad I didn't go to Minot.

I live in Sacramento, CA. Born and raised. It's a quiet town and 'shuts down' relatively early.
I would not call Sac quiet.. well it depends on what part I guess. But I see the opposite living in Michigan "your from Cali??? why the hell did you move here???"

Personally you couldn't get me to move back to cali... Ok maybe if I got a job at Blizzard... maybe.. a very weak Maybe.

But I never understood x is better then y in relations to towns and states... everywhere has its positives and negatives.

The only thing I miss from Sac is Arden Mall. The only thing I really miss from cali is In and Out... damn it.. *goes to cry*

Him: "I'm going back to New York." (Of course....)
That said it all right there

And if he wants to bitch about Sacramento, may I suggest he take a hop and a skip over to Salt Lake. People complain about stuff closing at 11 in California, in Utah we feel grateful when something is open until 9. We have a Wal-Mart that closes at 11, yes, in a city of over a million we have a Wal-Mart that closes. Trust me, if you want to find something not to like about somewhere, you will find it.
For the record though, unlike Sacramento, Salt Lake has NO redeeming qualities outside of cheap rent and utilities, and the utility companies are doing their best to fix that second part
