People do this in call centers too.

I work in a small one where there's only 5 or 6 of us on at the same time. It's HILARIOUS when we hear each other fielding the same exact question from the same exact location.

Sometimes we get snarky and point blank ask them if they just called. Usually they lie, which makes it even funnier.

      Hell, yes. All the time.

And we had a supervisor who did this too! He was new; he would ask one of us how something was supposed to be done. We've all been here for years, we know the procedures. We'd answer the question and he would respond, "I'll have to ask [manager who hired him]." He even did this after asking a woman who'd been here 35 years. Talk about insulting.
When you start at zero, everything's progress.

I can only recall doing this once.

When I got my first bank account my Dad's name was on it (incase I died he'd get my money instead of the bank). But they had his name wrong, for a year.

I would call and explain, they'd tell me it was fixed till the next statement came with the wrong name.

The day it was finally changed I called back an hour later to make sure the change went through because I was tired of calling. I even admitted I had just called.

I like when I explain something to a customer, and then they ask for my boss (or his boss) because they don't like my answer. Then my boss tears them a new one for not listening to me.
