At the hellhole store I work for, you literally do wait in line for at least 30 minutes most days. They never have enough cashiers because they can't keep cashiers. As soon as they're hired, they quit.

It's ridiculous. It always takes longer for me to checkout than it takes to shop. Just another pleasant end to a rotten workday at the hellhole store.

i've had a couple times at one store where the wait is a good 10+ (possibly 30) minutes. however i'm good at amusing myself... if i have nothing else to do i'll just daydream until it's my turn. *

ironically i once decided "to hell with it, i'll bring a book in". cos that way i'll have something to do in line while i wait.

          wouldn't you know? there wasn't a line!

          * had a cashier apologize to me for it but i was like "it happens " cos hell it's often not their fault anyway. and seriously, i've waited over an hour in the chow line on my ships. waiting even 30 minutes isn't a big thing for me.

When I'm pressed for time, I try not to go to stores that usually have long lines. I also try to avoid peak times.

If I'm not in a hurry and the lines are long, I can always find something to amuse myself. People watch, persuse the magazines at the check-out, etc. Definite 'non-SC' behavior.

That's the only time you can read the National Enquirer without people thinking you're an idiot.
