  • Concerning Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows, I am so glad I don't work in Box

So for those of you who don't already know, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows part 1 came out at 12:01 am. I was working behind the concession stand the first half of the day, so I missed the big rush. Anyway on to the story.
We have 12 screens at our theatre, all of which were doing a 12:01 showing of Harry Potter. They all sold out before we even opened, and the poor box office cashier had to constantly answer the phone about whining crybabies throwing a hissy fit because they could not buy a ticket to Harry Potter. Being in the concession stand yesterday, I did not have a chance to overhear any of these conversations. Yeah, its only our biggest movie of the year, stupid customers. People probably bought tickets weeks in advance, probably earlier if they got the chance to.
Well he finally came back to the stand later to get a drink and a little food, sighing loudly. He was clearly pissed off and I asked what was wrong. He told me some stupid bitch cussed and yelled at him over the phone because she was unable to buy tickets for the 12:01 Harry Potter. I asked why not just hang up? He said as much as he'd love to, they would just call back and complain to a manager.
Ok seriously people, its just a stupid movie, and yes I know its not just any movie, that its Harry Potter and probably the biggest movie of the year, even bigger than Twilight (those of you who are Twilight fans and dispute this, start a different thread, thank you ) But getting upset over a stupid movie? Gee, I didn't know we were the only movie theatre in the whole state of Texas, or even in the metroplex. Every movie theatre is showing this and you can go somewhere else to watch it. And its gonna be in theatres for a very long time, so you Harry Potter fans will have plenty of time to go see it.
Sometimes I just don't unerstand customers, throwing a big fit over something as stupid as a movie. If they missed it last night, they can watch it today, what is the big fucking deal? I tell yall something, customer or no customer, anyone talks to me like that, on the phone or to my face, I will refuse service. There are many perfectly legitimate reasons to get upset over a movie experience. Not being able to buy tickets for 1 particular time is just plain stupid. Come on people, its not the end of the world.
I feel for the box office people, especially when tonight they gotta tell people Harry Potter is sold out.

Back when Revenge of the Sith came out, I was determined I was going to the midnight show of the last Star Wars movie ever (I don't count that Clone Wars travasty). Favorite Uncle and I bought our tickets a couple months in advance. Even then, we had to get the 12:26 showing because the 12:01 was already sold out all over town. Oh well. It was AWESOME!

Incidentally, the above is the only time I will admit to lying to my parents. The movie came out during finals week my senior year in high school and they said I could go if I didn't have any finals the next day. Of course I *didn't* have any finals. Just a physics test I was going to bomb anyway.

Going to see Harry Potter later today. I'd have loved to gone last night, but you can't beat 2 IMAX tickets for $11.

      AGREED!

My lovely lady bought the tickets a few weeks ago, and we are going to the noon imax (Navy Pier, Chicago). Just need to figure out what bag to bring to sneak in my less fatty snacks...

If I haven't seen the first six movies, would it make sense to see the seventh?

(I have read all the books, in their UK editions (imported at hideous expense) because I wanted to read them as written, not as messed with by American editors who underestimate the ability of American kids to figure out British slang from context. OK, the last three were either bought in or imported from Canada, but the first four cost me more for the postage than the books.)

I haven't seen the sixth movie yet, so I don't want to see part one of the seventh.

But yeah, I know people here who got their tickets weeks in advance. It's like, hey you KNOW it's gonna be like the most popular movie ever, so if you end up not getting tickets, STFU and just go later. Yeah, yeah, it's not the "premiere," no one cares.

Friends of mine went last night to see it. Of course, the 12:01 showings (all 6 of them) were sold out, so the went to the ***12:02*** showing (6 more). Apparently they said there were people bitching that 12:02 wasn't good enough. WTF???

Did you know heads bounce off desks? I do now after reading that. Ow.
And my friend worked box last night. She called me in tears from laughing so hard. So lady chucked a soda at her for "Not having any of those Potty tickets."

She said the lady was old enough to pass for my granny.

Ah the stupdity of customers, how I love it! They made a big stink over 1 minute? And by the time they get done bitching about it, that 1 minute has passed.
I'm also pretty sure I'll hear about people bitching about how they can't sit together. We have a very strict rule at our theatre for popular movies like this.... You must go to the theatre number on your ticket stub. If you and your friend can't sit together, tough shit.
I'd just like to thank J K Rowlings for making Harry Potter as I am a big fan of it. I also would like to condemn her for it, as it makes our lives at work a living hell dealing with die hard Harry Potter fans. (That last part is a joke btw for those of you who are about to criticize me if I don't defend myself here)

It's a BIG DEAL because they will be the only person in their office, class, cult meeting, whatever who didn't see it at 12:01. Or they wanted to be the only person who saw it to rub it in.

Now what would have been priceless is if the theater dropped one of the stupid commercials (not trailers, just the true commercials) so that the 12:02 showing actually finished BEFORE the 12:01 showing

I'm going to see it... but I plan to wait a week til I do, so that I don't have to fight for tickets. I plan to attend as usual wearing my Slytherin t-shirt.

As nice as that would be, our theatre would face lawsuits from dozens of advertisers who pay us to show their commercials. But yeah, that'd be great.

Oh my goodness, you guys aren't going to believe this. I....*gasp* PLANNED AHEAD for this. I bought my ticket last week online and stopped by the theater Monday and picked up my actual ticket.

When I showed up this morning at 9:50 for the 10:30 show, I got into the short line directly in front of the door marked for ticket holders only. I then got to walk into the theater, walk directly past all the people to get my ticket taken, walked into the theater, and was one of the 1st 10 people to sit down with my wide choice of seat. Amazing what a bit of planning will do eh?

If only we could teach that to customers.

The last Star Wars movie was "Return of the Jedi".

There were only 3 Star Wars movies, 3 Indiana Jones movies, and 1 Highlander movie.

Anyone who tells me different gets the "stare of DOOM".

Just got back from an 11:30am showing a lil bit ago. I feel bad for all of those of you having to work last night and this first weekend <passes around the snacky bits of choice>. I never intended on going to a midnight showing, because I have little patience for screaming fangirls, and people who don't understand the concept of STOP TALKING DURING THE GD MOVIE, and midnight showings are ripe for this kind of behavior. The theater this morning in my little town was LOVELY. Sure, it isn't a 30-screen megaplex with wide seats and super IMAX yadda yadda, but it was only 2/3 full and I had an empty chair on each side of me, and NO TALKING (Yay!), so I was quite happy!

Did I mention (IMHO) that this was the best movie so far? No spoilers, but I recommend going to see it!

Oh, and P.S. lol, I bought my ticket at 8 o'clock this morning. I still could've gone last night, though. Only one of the eight midnight showings here sold out, heh heh.
