bg: I have an online store where I sell handmade quilts. I also sell custom-made quilts.
I love 99% of my customers. It's just that weird 1% that a: thinks I'm reselling from Wal-mart, b: thinks I own a factory/sweatshop or c: thinks I have a TARDIS full of fabric in my back pocket.
I really really wish C was true, because I would save tons of money on supplies, gas and shipping.
Anyway, so it's the time of year that I lock myself in the sewing room and just get zen with fabric. I've actually already finished 4 quilts and about 10 quilted stockings so far this year. I also am working on custom orders too.
So I got an email from my website, a lady would like a custom quilt done. She likes (quilt A) and would like one the same but bigger. I very politely inform her that I am all out of the *exact* fabric used in Quilt A and I can get something similar. She agrees. We hammer out all kinds of details, from the backing and quilting and tons of other minutia. I ask her to make a down payment of 50%. She decides to go ahead and pay in full, including shipping. She pays and I give her a completion/ship date.
So now I go through my TARDIS of fabric, picking out the ones that fit her criteria. (masculine child prints in blue, yellow and green). I emailed her with photos. That's when she blew up. Oh I shouldn't know she didn't want fabric with PEOPLE or CARTOONS in them! No!!
Which means I have to waste another shopping trip finding more fabric for her quilt.
The stupid thing? The quilt she loved? Quilt A? Is full of these PEOPLE and CARTOON style fabrics.
