I would have totally ignored her, until she came up with something more respectful.

Why didn't you just walk away when she started treating you like that? Better to walk away than to say something stupid & getting down to her level AND risking your job.

Well, when I say it's larger cousin...sometimes it is referred to as its fatter cousin...
sorry, it's the history nut in me coming out.

I think I would have looked around for the little boy, then asked her to describe the little boy.

You were a lot more patient and professional than I could have been. The minute the crack about respect came out of her mouth, I would have told her that it goes both ways, it needs to be earned, and I won't take abuse from anyone, customer or otherwise. I suppose I would have been fired, but hell, I don't take that from my family, I sure won't take it from a stranger.

And on behalf of feminists, may I say that not only was she no feminist, she was no lady either.

Oh she is lucky I never ran into her. I am not that tall. If she called me little boy she would get a major earful.

What got me was how she felt the need to keep repeating the insult at every opportunity.

Yes Marmalady, but we all know that she couldn't be original or clever..so the one insult was all her mind was capable of.
Engaged to the amazing Marmalady. She is my Silver Dragon, shining as bright as the sun. I her Black Dragon (though good honestly), dark as night..fierce and strong.

That simply isn't how normal people behave. .
unfortuneately these days one can not readily define "normal"anymore. people have lost what used to be called common decency and respect. now it is all GIMMME and "I look down upon you, you lowly little robot"
I'm lost without a paddle and headed up SH*T creek.

Amen, Sheldonrs! Not only would I have corrected her from the start by saying, "M'am, my name is Eric. Not 'little boy'. Little boys are probably too small and young to work here anyway.." At the first mention of "stupid" I would have just walked away or said, "calling someone 'stupid' guarantees you that won't get help. Goodbye!"
Agreed. Even though it probably would've lost me my job, there's a line you do not cross, and she stomped all across it.

I feel sorry for the daughter, but at least she's on the right track. And I suspect she won't be bringing the grandkids to visit Grandma Beeyotch very often...

I was thinking about this last night.. The daughter was civil enough to apologize, and didn't show any traits of her Mom's personality. That would win me over right there. If the daughter was attractive to me, I would consider asking her if she wanted to get back at her mom by pretending that her and I are dating...(and see where it went from there)

Wow, what an awful woman. I'm so sorry you had to experience her.

The thread title immediately put a Stevie Nicks song in my head, though.

I bet that would give the bitch something to think about, her brain would probably explode.

                                I admire your restraint.

I have walked away from customers for less offensive, but disrespectful nonetheless, behavior. I refuse to be treated like a lesser than by anyone. I have never been rude back, and have always been backed up by my managers. The daughter did a nice thing by apologizing.
