      Maybe.

I like listening to DB, though.

        Tell me about it.

I cried two weeks ago when I spent a total of $35 to fill up my Toyota Corolla.

And I'm still crying over it. I don't own a Hummer, for Pete's sake.
I'm not entirely sure how much it takes to completely fill our Jeep, since the station we fill up at cuts off at $75 and, for some reason we can't figure out, won't reauthorize the pump for a second purchase. $75 gets us roughly 3/4 of the tank, give or take a bit, so the full tank would probably be in the ballpark of $100.

My C-store's pumps cut you off at $100. Strangely enough, no one seems to want to put anymore in their tanks than that anyway! Go figure!

Something I ran into a few years back (the last time fuel prices went through the roof). TCH cards would cut off at $1000 per transaction (pump would normally kick out at around $950 or so), Comdata allowed $1000 per calendar day (based on Mountain time). Really fun if you'd been running for a couple days (e.g. out-and-back, fill up at place near company yard before finishing the trip), and the tank would hold more than $1000 worth (many times on TCH, once on Comdata - and that was an independent that ran the card after pumping, fortunately it only took another $30 or so to fill, so I was able to cover it). Esso did it the smart way - their limit was 1200 litres per day, so spiking prices wouldn't result in cutoff before the tank was full.

Fun fact (didn't happen to me - I run single): depending on the truck, load, and terrain, a team can burn over 250 gallons per day. Can you imagine a team with only Comdata, at a fuel price over $4.00/gallon?

... I remember pumping 540 gallons of diesel #2 into one semi when I worked at Little America, WY... at 39.9 per gallon.

Wow! That's roughly double the tank capacity of most trucks today - would definitely cut into the payload he could carry.

I've honestly never lived in a state where both where needed -- I'm used to plates on the back only. Heck, most cars I've seen don't even have an empty plate holder on the front!
There are only 19 states that don't require both plates, of which Louisiana is one.

As for the whole debit card & holds thing, I'd totally make a point to get cash out before hitting the station to avoid that sort of crap. Thankfully, between Arco (BP) and Bank of America, I never run into that problem.

I did not know that ^_^ Neat. I figured that double-plate states would have been in the minority.

...Now why did they use that old, plain and damn near fugly LA plate alongside the cooler-looking plates from most of the other states? >_< Granted, I'm not asking for them to use the badass Superbowl plate, but still

$190.00 was how much money I spent on gas in one go, on my debit card in the store. I filled the tanks in the Bus (Diesel sipper at 17mpg), my Jeep (Gas at 15mpg), and the RV (Gas-HOG! at 6mpg) on the Big Trip heading west.

Florida does not require both tags, but New Jersey does. I used to keep one of my old Jersey tags on the front of my car and the legal Florida tag on the back.

I saw something similar not too long ago, but it involved a WI Sesquicentennial plate on the front and a MI plate on the back.

You should get the RV checked out - that's lousy fuel economy. On my last trip, I got 6.2 MPG - and the inbound load had me at a hair under the legal maximum of 80,000 pounds gross, going up and down some major hills. To top it off, I just found out that my charge air cooler leaks, which means my fuel economy is a couple tenhts worse than it should be.

A good point. They shouldn't tie up that much of your money for that long. How long does it take to put a charge through? Does it really need up to two weeks to clear? How are people supposed to get the other things they need in the meantime?
98% of the time the charge is through the next day. The other 2% it takes them either 2 or 3 days. So maximum is 72 hrs. But the hold time if they don't release is 8-12 business days (same for hotels, but the vast majority of hotels release the hold when they charge, gas stations are the opposite).
