  • Awful woman complains about me at my brand new job

I've been serving for 6 years but I just moved to a new town a couple of months ago and started my job about 3 weeks ago. It's the busiest restaurant in town and locally owned so the owner is always there.

Last night we were SLAMMED. Hour and a 1/2 wait being double and triple sat all night. So I get a 6 top and everything is going fine. I get their order,(2 of the items are the longest ticket time on the menu) put it in and return probably 6-8 minutes later to refill their drinks.

Bitch Grandma: "Are we ever going to get our food

    Oh God...here we go.

Fast forward a little bit and their food is up. I checked the ticket time...19 minutes. 7:00...line out the door, those 2 long ticket time items. Hey! Pretty good. I take it out to the table and...

BG: What in the world took so long?! We have been waiting for 55 minutes. I have never waited for food this long in my life!

And here's where I went wrong in server world. But I just switched into Human mode where human beings treat each other with the respect they deserve. I said:

"Actually ma'am, I looked at the times as I was coming out and it's only been about 19 minutes."

BG: You know what you should do...you should just tell me you're sorry."

I set my jaw and said. "Ok....I'm very sorry."

I went on like nothing happened. Checking back, refills, trying to be very pleasant. BG pays for the meal.

After they leave my section partner comes up to me and says, ' Oh boy...you're in for it. Those people are regulars and they're old [our town] money. They complained about and said you were rude and nasty and when you said goodnight to them you said it "sarcastically"

Are you f%*#ing kidding me. Floor manager was cool about it but he told GM and owner and they're probably going to call me and talk to me.

Uggggh! You're so rich and important but the only thing you can think of to do is fuck with the life of a server at the restaurant where you eat all the time. Stop feeling so entitled!

And this is what I hate. Ok, they're regulars, and they have money. But that doesn't mean they get to get away with being rude and nasty to the staff. But it seems that management allows this which I don't think is right. I hate when they suck up to SCs for whatever reason.

Ugh, even if BG was waiting 55 min since she walked in the door (or since the family got her in the car, or since she got hungry after watching Matlock), if she wanted to be conpensated for the horrible wait time, she should asked for the manager, not take it out on you. It doesn't change the amount of time she waited by her telling you she had to wait. People should complain about things you can change ("you forgot the salt" or "I didn't want rice") but time? Can't change that. I hate entitled people.
Time! Time! Time is what turns kittens into cats.

Don't teach me a lesson; all I learn is that you are an asshole.

      I wish porn had subtitles.

When u go to a restaurant & see that it's busy then you're expected to patiently wait till you're seated. & then you're expected to patiently wait to get your meal. It doesn't matter if you've gone there since the stone age or you have money falling out of your asshole. You gotta wait like everybody else.

if they're locals then they should know the place gets backed up sometimes.

it doesn't matter how much money they claim they spend - they don't own the restaurant or you. even if they want to treat you like their personal servant

Personally... we saw a local establishment once that was so packed it was an hour wait. were we upset? No. We looked at it in a positive light - a local restaurant was doing well. and we were glad to get in there early enough that the wait wasn't as bad for us as it was for others

Exactly. If you go to a restaurant where the lineup's out the door, what laws of physics do you think can be bent or broken so you get your food in 30 seconds flat? Oh, right ... you're "old money."

Welcome to the CS forum, MissAnnThrope.

Did the BG leave any tip?

Sometimes a restaurant is just really busy. It happens, particularly as popular places. If its busy this will not be very difficult to notice. Line out the door, huge crowds of people waiting around outside. That sort of thing.

This gives you the opportunity to decide if you want to tough out the wait, or if you want to go someplace else where the line is shorter.

At least, this is what sane and rational people would do.

She was looking to cause trouble. "55 minutes"--who gets that specific unless they're literally timing how long it takes...and they couldn't have been since you had proof it was only 19 minutes. She pulled that number out of her ass. Therefore, deliberately being a twat. Some people get their jollies that way.

                      She left me 10%

What's really going to suck is being called in by the manager and owner and having to bite my tongue and say I'm wrong. That is NOT my personality. I try to always follow the Golden Rule and that applies to customers too. I'm providing a service to you...just because I'm bringing you food doesn't mean you have transcended me as a human being. If you act like a jackass and a child you will be treated as such. This is why I'm not a manager, haha. I would never side with a rude for no reason customer.

I wouldn't start from there as a default position; you weren't wrong, she was, and no amount of "old money" will change that. You perhaps shouldn't have corrected her but that's besides the main point really. Her money has given her a sense of entitlement - well if her money's that good, why doesn't she hire a damn cook at home?

I still can't figure out what is with people who think because they frequent a place all the time, they can act/do however/whatever they want.

I'm a creature of habbit moreso than anyone I know, and I never act entitled to shit. I appreciate the Subway people always remembering what sandwich I get, I like how everyone at the gym asks me what I'm up to, but that's about it.
