Disclaimer: I am not an American nor do I live in the U.S.

Just asking out of curiosity: If it's a Constitutional right to bear arms (or arm bears, LOL), isn't it illegal for businesses to post signs saying "No guns"?

Please feel free to PM me if you'd prefer, as I'm not trying to start a debate on the subject.

As for SC#1, isn't it amazing how whatever an SC wants to do is suddenly THE LAW?
Actually, I think I can answer this without fratching - as long as no one runs with it and steers it off-topic. Please.

We've often talked on here how SCs, when told not to swear, etc, will start yelling they can say whatever they please, they have a right to free speech. And it's usually agreed, yes, but store is private property, so owner can have rules against swearing. No fratching involved.

So, pretty much same thing in this case, I would think.

Did I say it nicely? I'm sure there it isn't quite that simple to everyone, but then, that really would be fratching, and I'm trying very, very hard to be informative and non-controversial. Honest.

      Madness takes it's toll....

The second guy was bragging. My guess is that he's one of those twits who mentions it every chance he gets. Honestly, what guy with an ounce of sense walks into a public business and announces that he has an expensive and ready-to-steal commodity in his car? He wasn't claiming discrimination, he was bragging about his toy.

Sooner or later that expensive and ready-to-steal commodity is going to get swiped because the whole world knows he has it.

I love when people invent their own laws. cos then it's fun to say "no it's not!"

We discriminate against people who carry guns!
To be honest, I've never seen a bank that doesn't have this posted.

In my state it's not a legal requirement to obey that (unless the establishment is protected under other laws), but they can ask you to leave. But in the next state, down it IS a legal requirement. So... if anything, always review laws before trying to argue them with the employees. Better yet... leave the employees alone, period cos they don't make the rules. Just vote with your feet.

My bank got signs a few years ago 'please remove hats, sunglasses and hoods before entering.' Private property, their rules.

Oh THAT law-how silly of me! All those banks the FDIC took over? Every one refused to cash a check after business hours.

I'd be thrilled to find a bank open to 7 pm. Mine's open until 6 and has Saturday hours, and I thought that was amazing!

You're lucky. Here in my part of NC, my bank is only open until 5, except on Friday - when it's open until 6. There are no Saturday hours

You know, if I had a store, I would wire every sign with an audio recording of what the sign says so that anytime a customer even came NEAR the sale items it would come to life and tell them what they need to know.

Same goes for store hours. They come near the door and they get, "Today we close at XX:XX." If they ignore that then they are super SC.
Problem with SCs, is that they have selective hearing. what they don't want to hear, goes in one ear, and out the other.

Sounds to me as if you said it "nicely," LOL. And thank you to those who PM'd me on the subject! I think I have a better understanding of the issue now.

I shall try to answer this in a factual, non-fratching way.

We have many Constitutional rights, but they are not absolute, and can be curtailed for certain reasons. In the case of the Second Amendment, we have the right to own and carry guns, but that does not mean we can carry them ANYWHERE. For example, with a few exceptions, most gun owners cannot carry their firearms on to a commercial airplane. Also, in many places, guns are not allowed on school campuses or in businesses that serve alcohol. The same for federal buildings or courthouses. The above are examples of laws curtailing the Second Amendment rights, but private businesses can do so as well. For example, while I am legally allowed to own and carry a gun, if I go to Club Pixie, they may well have a rule (different than a law) prohibiting people from entering with weapons of any kind. (A local club here, for example, does this very thing. And while it is perfectly legal for me to have my knife on me, I cannot enter said club with it.)

Short answer: a bank prohibiting people from entering with firearms is not discrimination, nor is it a violation of his Constitutional rights. Except in his head, of course.

Out West in and around Wyoming it was very common to see ordinary people walking into a bank with a gun on their hip.
I did it myself a few times as I usually carried a gun - after having a dog rip into my leg on my own property and other critters out and about its a good idea if you live in the boondocks to have a gun handy.
My Grandpa ( ex cop) told me a story of some city slicker from out of state who came walking into the bank with a mask on and a gun drawn.
Before he even has a chance to say peep he dropped his gun and gave up.
Might have had something to do with the tellers and most of the customers having their guns drawn and pointed at the guy.
Guns are a tool as long as you know how to use one responsibly they can do alot to avert trouble.
I myself survived 1 armed break in attempt, 2 break ins and a 4 man armed carjacking attempt because I was armed or had a gun close.
While I may not agree with some posted no guns signs and zones I do understand why some people think they are neccesary and do abide by them.
Having moved to a country where gun laws are a lot tougher than in the states I respect the laws here as well and currently don't own any guns.

I can also add that during my concealed carry course, the instructor specifically mentioned those signs on no-carry on premesis. They're perfectly legal, and within the rights of the property to put them up. Any decent gun owner will obey the wishes of the owner and either put their gun away in their car or quietly go elsewhere. That guy was a pure-D dick, and gives the rest of us a bad name.
