In my life, I have spent $1000 or more on only four items. (Not talking about vacations here, just single item purchases.)

    1. My bicycle. I am a cyclist, this is the best bike I have ever ridden or owned, and I have never regretted this expenditure for an instant.

    2. The first Jestermobile/Jester's Blue Cab, a 1987 Dodge Shadow Turbo.

    3. The second Jestermobile/Jester's Blue Cab Version 2, a 1989 Chevy Blazer.

    4. The third and current Jestermobile/Jester's Blue Cab Mark III, a 2000 Chevy Blazer.

So maybe it's just me, but I can't see dropping this kind of dough on a video game system. Especialy since, as many have pointed out, in a little time the bugs will be ironed out and the price will drop.

Exactly why I'm waiting for a price drop. On the subject of single purchases or items that run high, there are a few guitars I'd wish I had that are expensive. This brand of guitar is called Taylor, they make acoustic guitars and they are quite expensive, the most expensive running at 3 grand. The cheapest one I looked for is about $600, I've played these guitars and they are very great to play and something of a dream for me to own. The next best thing for me would be a Martin but those are still expensive.

No, I'M the worst girlfriend ever. I don't put out, I hog all the Chee-toes, I sabotage things, I really really like fire, and if you tick me off, I'll beat you down and then tell all your friends I did it.

OT, I am so starting to sympathize with the repeating things.

Me: "There wasn't any such article in Sunday's paper."
            SC: "I saw it!"
Me: "I have the paper right here. There's no article like that."
SC: "My cousin/sister/best friend/neighbor's dog said it was in there!"
            Me: "You were misinformed."
            SC: "IT IS!"

Unfortuneatly, I wished I'd done that for the PS2-I bought one as soon as I could get my hands on it, and the damn thing cratered in on itself after about a 10 months. Pissed off, I went to the Sony Store, bought another one (while the price was still about $450 or so) and got the three-year warrenty-the total came to about $700. Naturally, that PS2 is still running strong today-with no problems at all.

well my husband just got his xbox 360 for his b-day(I just bought it mere hours ago), but the ps3 is going to be sony's swan song(IMHO)-granted the blu-ray player is almost as expensive but blu-ray is Sony's brainchild and is propriatary and some studios will not support it(Do a search for Betamax, or even the mini-disc-all sony propriatary, all extinct technology), so you'll have to have an hd-dvd player as well because there are only I believe two or three studios putting anything on blu-ray because it's expensive to manufacture(the manufacturing equipment for pressing has to be purchased from sony) while hd-dvd can be pressed on the standard equpiment for normal dvds. Plus the studios that want to put content on blu-ray have to pay sony for the rights to use the format for their own material, rather than use an industry standard format for free. Add to that the fact that sony has not even had a working demo for the ps3(at E3 the graphics were run on a modified xbox 360), so I'll believe that it exists when I actually see one(IIRC-they haven't even set a release date-though I haven't been watching so I wouldn't be surprised if I'm wrong on that)-until then it remains what it's been for 2 years-Vaporware.

BlaqueKatt-can someone say root kit-Sony can

ps-sony released square-enix from their exclusivity contract, so they are free to release the next FF on xbox 360 which is a more popular system currently as sony has pissed off all but the die-hard loyal fans of the brand name with the root-kit fiasco
Honestly.... the image of that in my head made me go "AWESOME!"..... and then I remembered I am terribly strange.-Red dazes

It's going to be BluRay vs HD-DVD in this next generation, so it will be interesting to see.

If anything, I think that the PS3 could actually swing the tide towards BluRay. With HD-DVD and Blu-Ray players so expensive right now, alot of people would just make a logical jump and go "Why not spend the extra hundred and get a PS3?"

That, and Final Fantasy Advent Children - Complete will be released on BluRay, so I already know which one I'm backing. :-)

There's a good reason I'm *afraid* to buy Sony CDs. I can't remember which titles are afflicted with the rootkit and don't want to find out the hard way when I go to put a track I really like into a format my MP3 player will deal with (last I knew, it's not considered a copyright violation to pull tracks off one's own purchased CDs for personal use on an MP3 player, and I'd rather not have my computer trashed for doing so).

OK, so I could just use DH's Mac for that purpose, but I don't think more MP3s are worth the hassle.

                        *Shrug*

XBox 360 is the more popular format by default. It's been out longer.

It's also staggeringly unpopular in Japan, where the Wii or the PS3 will reign supreme. And, while some developers- Capcom springs to mind- have started to realize the power of the US market, most Japanese developers develop for Japan first. This means a few things.

First of all, most of the jRPGs(which I love) are probably going to stay PS3 or Wii exclusive.

Second, a lot of the more esoteric Japanese games(Phoenix Wright and Katamari Damacy, anyone?) are probably going to stick to those consoles too.

Third, Squeenix has ALWAYS been a single console developer for their primary properties(excluding remakes and one off games such as Tactics Advance). Even with the exclusivity contract gone, I doubt they'll change that any time soon. I could be wrong, I don't know, but it's certainly served them well in the past. And if they do change consoles, it'll probably be to go back to Nintendo.

On the plus side for the 360, there's starting to be rumors that Devil May Cry 4 will be coming to the 360 as well as the PS3, but that's mostly because, again, Capcom's one of the few Japanese developers that seems to understand the power of the American market. Remember, ever since the original Devil May Cry, many of their properties(excluding Onimusha for obvious reasons) have had only one voice track, the English. Watch the Japanese God Hand trailer sometime, you'll hear the same voices we've got in the game.

                        Won't go into Blu-Ray vs HD-DVD, since I care more about the games than the format. ^^;

Anyhow, I've ranted enough, and I'm not trying to fan flames... simply talking...

I must be the only on here on CS that doesn't care about the PS3 or 360 and instead if hyped for the Wii. Then again I'm such a Nintendo fanboy.

                              Nintendo Fanboy! Dirty Word!

The fanboy part, not the Nintendo part.

I am pretty sure that my husband wants the XBox 360, PS3, AND the Wii. But I'm pretty sure we don't have a money tree growing in our yard...actually, we don't even have a yard. Plus, we both got PSPs and Nintendo DS this year, so he will have to wait. He sulks everytime he goes by any store that has an electronics section.
