Ouch, that sucks, I always say at least a thank you for any custom work i order (I LARP, so I get quite a lot of ren-faire/SCA style clothing).

Even if a project is late for a deadline (I tell the person I'm ordering from of the deadline and ask if it would be possible to do it by that time before placing the order) I still say thanks if it is completed at all

Ok guys, I think you've pressed all the possible puns out of this topic.

And why don't people realise that there's a REASON that clothes used to cost a year's wages?

I don't know, I think the creative people here might be able to weave a few more together.

I hope you can iron out the any future difficulties with the thoughtless customer.

Try not to be too strait-laced when dealing with him, though. He may have been responding from his cell phone and just doesn't like to text too much.

He he he. You guys crack me up.

I did hear something other than "is the next project done" from this guy today. He commented on the gallery where I'd posted this, and mentioned I was glad the customer had been patient with it taking three whole months...

...to say that yes, he had been very patient.

Then he e-mailed me to ask if I could write less than the actual value of the costume when I shipped it, so he wouldn't have to pay customs.

                    Cripes, what a jerk!

.... can you choose to refuse the second item, or is it too late? This guy is just too much of a "me, me, me" person to have to put up with his carp.

Right there I think I'd be refunding his money and keeping his "project" for myself if he doesn't want the full value declared.

You don't want any part of customs fraudsters. If the fraud is exposed, you're the one who gets in trouble. Not him.

Seconded. If you can afford to, keep your work as a display piece for other customers and don't deal with this guy again.

There is a caveat to this, though. You said he needs it shipped and is worried about customs: Does this guy speak English well and is he from a culture you understand? You may be dealing with a culture or language barrier. He may honestly believe that what he's doing is appropriate behavior. If this is the case then it's the misunderstanding that's sucky, not the customer.

So don't hem him in with cultural mis-perceptions and you may be able to keep this situation from unraveling completely.

yes, but I'm pretty sure its not a cultural misconception to not thank someone for the hard work they have put it, demand an update on another project, make insinuous comments on Spark's website about how long they had to wait, and then, on top of all of that, ask Spark to break the law just to do them a favour without so much as a please or thank you...

Thats not a cultural misconception, thats an asshole, who even if it is normal to treat people like that in their culture, should realise that's not the way it is done in 99% of the world, and should treat Spark like an awesome artist who he is lucky to get a project done by.

Sorry, went on a bit of a rant, don't want to go into fratching territory
