It would not be possible for me to care any less about sports, not without the aid of illegal narcotics at any rate.

This is true even for sports that you'd think a gay man would find at least mildly interesting, such as those fighting championships where studly men in skimpy underwear grapple and try to fling one another out of the ring or something. I don't know how it works. All I do know is that I came into the break room one night to see on the TV screen a black guy with dreads with his legs in a scissor-lock around some white guy's head and the only thing either one was wearing was briefs. Neither one had biceps larger than their heads, so I know it wasn't professional wrestling, plus it also looked liked they were making actual contact with each other.

Several guys were sitting around yelling at the screen as though they could somehow influence the outcome of the fight or match or whatever it was. Among these guys was the shift supervisor who so pathetically name-drops women he finds attractive (be on the lookout WLOS weathergirl!) and talks about going on dates, and will work his fascination with lesbian porn into any possible conversation, that you can't help but conclude that he's as gay as an April morn -- yelling right along with them.

And me? All I could think was that the only thing that kept it from being gay porn was that they kept their briefs on. And I sat down, ate my candy bar, drank my Diet Coke (sweetened with Splenda!), read my book, and tried to drown out all the yelling.
Drive it like it's a county car.

I just had a similar conversation the other night with my boyfriend - we live in Longhorn country where if you don't bleed orange you're a pariah.

well, my 10 yr hs reunion is coming up this year (holy crap how did that happen?!) and i would like to go see my HS football Homecoming game, and funnily enough my mom is going to her 32nd reunion football homecoming game this weekend - its cute, but i think this past weekend was the UT/OU game - *cue blank stare*
I explained to my BF that I can go to game, and scream and yell and hollar just as much as any fan, and have fun, but i CANNOT watch a game on TV - i have no idea what's going on, the camera angles keep changing, the announcers will NOT STFU about this player, and that player and how they did last season, and oh, here lets show a replay about something that JUST happened but we couldn't talk about it when it happened so let us do so now, and OMG just for the love of skittles, STFU already! and no, you can't watch it on mute - if you're going to do that why have the game on at all.... I'm sorry what was the question?

I don't follow sports, i simply don't care, and have things to do with my life that involve being sociable and away from the TV - if there is a game on, then you can go watch it, i'm going to be anywhere else that it and the resulting neanderthals are not....

I also do not follow sports and have absolutely no desire to do so. I can always tell when football season has returned full-force because my Facebook wall is BOMBARDED with status updates from all of my die-hard sports friends updating the game they're watching every few seconds or so. Seriously? If I cared enough to want to have updates, I'd be watching the damn game myself!

The only sport I've ever watched much of is tennis, back when I was in high school. I played tennis throughout my high school years and enjoyed watching it sometimes. It depended on who was playing, though. Now, I watch no sports and I'm perfectly fine with that. If anything, I'll go to an actual sports game in person (most likely hockey), because being part of the crowd is what makes it any kind of fun for me.

That being said, add me in to the group that would prefer sitting down with a book, going to a museum, or kicking some ass in a video game. I'm a female gamer geek and proud of it!

Speaking of... I really should finally beat God of War. Hmm.

I am with Irv, well rounded geek. Until last year I loved watching american football and baseball (which in the NW is usually involves facepalming a lot.)

Then the hubby introduced me to soccer. Yeah now the other version of football moves to slow. Too many commercials. Plus there is nothing like seeing a soccer game live (at least up here) Also love rugby, especially the New Zealand All Blacks *drool*

I don't understand making fun of or teasing people about not liking sports.

I'm another bookworm/gamer geek chick, but I also have a passing interest in various sports as opportunity (and my overstuffed schedule) permits.

I know enough about a variety of sports to be able to talk about them without being lost, but I don't really follow who's doing what or to whom. Although I do tend to end up knowing a lot about how the Lakers are doing, since at least half of the people I work with are Lakers fans, and a couple are decidedly rabid about it.

I've never been able to work up any real interest in sports either. DH is quite into hockey, football, lacrosse, American football and even basketball or baseball now and then. I find it oh-so amusing when he's watching certain teams and I can hear the yells and so forth coming from the family room. However, he's almost always willing to give up a TV game for real life activities, doesn't expect me to like sports cause he does, and he also loves museums and historic places. So I cut him some slack

Our two major state college teams here are Ducks and Beavers. I do take a bit of interest when the Beavers play - not that I care much to actually watch a game, but I love going around shouting "Go Beavers" and variations there of. Beaver was my maiden name. And trust me, after my high school years of hearing every joke imaginable, it's quite an experience to hear the name used with respect for a change

Not quite sports, but my ex was heavily into auto racing. He was determined to get me into it. Yeah, drag a seven months pregnant woman to a dirt track race with dust, gas fumes, hard bleachers, and horrid porta-potties. Yep, that's really gonna convince her to love the whole thing.

                  Madness takes it's toll....

Chalk up another guy who doesn't give a rip about sports. I used to, and I stopped caring. I probably can't name ten people in the NFL, or 5 playing major league baseball.

When asked, my usual comment is "Why should I care which team of entitled, multi-millionaire steroid junkies wins a trophy?"

1, 2, or 3? If it's one you have a HELL of a lot of catching up to do.

If it's 2, don't bother, it's more filler than anything.

And I am NOT a football fan.

I am, however, a Milwaukee Brewers fan. Good, bad, indifferent...however the season ends up, I root for them.

Ok, I slightly lied a bit. There is one time when I will willingly watch something sports-related- The Olympics. Winter, Summer, I like 'em both and will sit and watch them both. This past Winter Olympics, I quite happily sat in front of the tv to catch the hockey games (the US v. Canada ones were intense ), the speed-skating, and honestly whatever else happened to be showing at any given time on the various channels that covered it.

Those are the kinds of things I like. Things with the word 'ball' in 'em I just find to be highly overrated.

At least you have a baseball team that doesn't suck I gave up on the Pirates years ago. There's no point in watching them--they're guaranteed to lose, no matter which team they play. 18 losing seasons, in fact

I picked up the collection as well as the 3rd one earlier this year. Didn't start playing the first one for a couple of months, and then periodically got so pissed off at my ineptitude that I would put it down for a week or more until I calmed down. Now I just have the last fight to beat and I'm done and can move on to a Wii game until I feel like going back to play God of War 2 and 3

Eternal bookworm, beginning gamer (just started my first MMORPG), and for me it depends on what sport, who's playing, and where I watch it.

Hockey - I have to be there, and it has to be good players (so that gets me out of going to see my <major team> lately). It's a lot less violent then the NBA or the NFL, and there is actually a lot of strategy involved.

Soccer/Football - Same as above (but I don't have a team, and my limit for it is quickly reached - the acting sucks). I did go to a game in London once (Tottenham vs Westham). It rocked.

Baseball - I can watch it on TV, but I enjoy visiting stadium - but preferably not MLB stadiums - the crowd there has started to get ugly. AAA teams and alternative leagues are a kick. We went to several alternative league games this year and it's fun because the umpire can hear you () and the players and fans are usually very friendly.

American Football - Erm. Well, I'm in a pool with some friends where the object is to pick just enough winners to not win and have to be the one picking them next week (this year it's 4/5 college games, games involving Friar Tuck Tebow, Farve, and Monday night football). And you are also supposed to provide exposition for your choices in as funny, snarky, disturbing, random (pick any combination) a way possible. I haven't won yet this year, and thanks to this pool, I can't ever watch the musical "Oklahoma" without feeling creeped out. And that's about as close to following football as I get. I did win the first time I was invited to the pool. I picked the teams according to the humidity in their home area on the day the game would be played. And that's about as much as I know or care about it.
