Actually, the brain can basically only see colours it has a name for otherwise it performs a "closest match". Seriously. This is why an artist or interior designer sees "Cream" or "Bone" and Average Joe just sees white. Show someone each of them side by side and name each though and they'll begin to learn to recognize the difference.

Upping your colour depth is a matter of study rather than function.

Actually, I think I know how GK feels about not going out. Sometimes all I want to do is stay home and veg out. I like it QUIET. No phone. No TV. No company. I'll read, write, play with the cats. SILENCE...it can be very restful.

...actually the whole thing about women seeing more colors than men is a widespread but false myth.

If you look at color naming studies, men will give more names for colors than women, but both give statistically similar numbers of names for colors. There's no evidence, physiologically or linguistically, that men and women see colors differently.

I'm not sure how a Ranger would replace a Ninja (Power Ranger, maybe?), but it sounds like the same lame game.
I suspect it's more along the lines of Park Ranger, who goes after the hunter for poaching, or something. And still gets mauled by the bear, which is more plausible than the ninja getting mauled by a bear.

This is actually true. It turns out there's evidence that people do not perceive certain colours until they have the language for it.
That... doesn't make sense. If you can't perceive colors until you have names for them, then how does a little kid see a full rainbow?

I just finished my color theory class. It's interesting as Hell, how the human mind perceives colors and makes them up and so on... I can see about 999999 times more colors in a blank wall than I ever knew existed.

That being said, grey is not dove. It is grey. And even my color theory professor will agree.

I'll miss you GK! Have a great vacation!!

Not knowing what squirrel tastes like prevents me from being able to quantify its meal placement. I probably should have assumed that it, like all other things, tastes like chicken and moved it into the lunch or dinner bracket.
It tastes like dark, dark turkey meat, with a little bit of nutty flavor to it. So, yeah, lunch and dinner.

But does the kid see the rainbow first, or do we point it out and name it? All we know is that a kid sees the paper (or the sky) that the rainbow is on/in. We dont know if they see the colors of it because we say "Is it purple? Like that one? Or is it Green, like that one?"

We kinda defeat ourself on that

And, um, the whole theory on the rock paper scissors facade. Scary.

Ah yes, but then a (male) friend of mine maintains that men only see in 16 colours, a bit like Windows default settings.
                      16? That is a lot
Uhm, let's see... black; white. Good until here. Blue, yellow, red; orange, green, purple; pink; gray; brown. All the others are "kind of". A darker red, a lighter blue...

For the record, at least here in Ireland, the Necronomicon DOES exist for sale. Unfortunately, it does not allow you to summon the Elder Gods to smite foes and cause babbling madness on sight. It is a commemorative collector's edition of the writings of H.P. Lovecraft in their original printed form, spelling and grammar mistakes and ye olde English and all. I have a copy myself and love reading it. Especially in public near churches
                      I want it.

From Big Bang Theory. Sheldon had a theory that Rock-Paper-Scissors was too limiting, so he invented this variation. But it didn't work, because everyone ALWAYS picked Spock.

                              I sitll don't buy it.

I see colors all the time (online, on cars, on buildings, etc) that I look at and go, "Oh, hey, that's pretty, it's kind of like Color X, but with a little hint of Color B." According to the things posited, I'd see it and since I had never seen it before or heard it named, I'd never get past seeing Color X, and that just doesn't happen.

I really don't think it's because people can't see colors until they have a way to name them so much as most people just don't care. To some, Dove, Smoke, and Ash have meaning, to others they're all just Grey.
