Thick, curly, VERY dark, and coarse.
      I think we're hair twins.. .

I always straighten mine...then it gets heat damaged...

The only coloring I do to my hair now is to make it blue-black.. Yes, im weird. Coloring my already nearly black hair even blacker. Such is life! Bleach never worked out well for me. Comes out brassy usually. I got highlight done professionally once and it was about $80, even them I paid for a copper toner to be added so they werent as blond.

      • I didnt even know this when i went SLS-free (shampoo/conditioner)

SLS and all its cousins are very harsh detergents that strip the skin’s moisture barrier (which is linked to immunity and skin health) and causes serious health problems during testing on animals. It is linked to harming children’s eyes, denaturing protein (thereby possibly contributing to hair loss or thinning), and combines with DEA, MEA and TEA (often found in the same shampoo) to form nitrosamines, a potent carcinogen. Since it is only included in products because of its potent foaming action, the question you must consider is:
What’s more important: the foam or your health:
        *hugs my shampoo bottle*

edit: amina, use a ceramic hot iron and deep condition once every week or two, your hair will be fine. or get a roll brush and a hot blow dryer

        • I do have a ceramic hot iron (CHI FTW!!!!!) ...I dont have a deep conditioner....hmmmmmmmm..Must fix this.

Also, I fuckin HATE roll brushes. I use the paddle brushes when I have to use a blow dryer at all. My straightener usually does the trick all by its lonesome.

          • Use the Ouidad deep conditioner I've mentioned.

            Either that or Redkin.

I wish I could go SLS-free. Every time I do, my scalp starts getting pissy at me and I have to treat it with coal tar for a month.

These are labeled DEEP conditioner and not a reg conditioner right?

Your scalp is going to go pissy until it gets used to it. Itll overproduce oil like crazy because its used to being dried out. My hair had zero problems when I switched because I already only washed my hair two times a week at a max.

                    deep conditioner
I use burts bees. 8$ works great.

                        • Ouidad can only be gotten from one of their salons or online.

Redkin requires going to a real salon or one of those specialty stores, usually. Though I thought I saw it in Target the other day.

Whiskey, I used to only use SLS-free shampoo and had what I thought was wicked dandruff. But then the dermatologist diagnosed me with a weird kind of eczema that means my scalp develops psoriasis-esque plaque. It's miserable.

I have mild eczema, my cousin has it really bad.

i never understood paying a shit ton of money for the same thing. If i'm paying 25$ for 2 ounces, i better get laid by george clooney afterwards.
